This is the image that showed up on Steam's home-page:
I am really hoping it will be a native port since the eON technology isn't for me up to scratch at all, but maybe in future it will be who knows. They have until February 2015 to sort out the Linux version, so one would hope it will be a decent port regardless of the tech used to bring it to our platform.
If it is a real port it will blow pretty much any other action+rpg type game we have right now away.

Why not? Pranksters can come up with weird ideas. Valve would have commented on such prank however. The whole thing looks somewhat weird.

I don't know. The fact that the ad went down is really weird. I see multiple websites supporting the fact that they saw the ad, and if Valve removed it for being a prank than we would know. Maybe CD Red decided they weren't ready for a Linux port yet? Or something else is going on. I've seen games for sale without Linux versions before. (Metro Last Light in the beginning) so I am not sure what to make of this. I'll wait for a more definite word from one of the two although that seemed pretty definite to me.

Yes I will buy it if it comes out for Linux. Only after I finish Witcher 2 though, have not had such fun with an RPG for years. The issues on the Linux version of Witcher 2 for me were addressed really quickly and I felt like the devs at CDprojekt were really paying attention to the Linux community and willing to fix the issues as a priority. Really great to have a AAA title on my favorite OS.

Play also Witcher 1 if you didn't yet. It's also a lot of fun (it works nicely in Wine).

I hadn't considered that, to be honest. Fair point. I'm not sure if the linux version of UT2004 can be considered native, but that won't even work for me anymore, whereas it works perfectly under wine.

I do use wine for most of my linux gaming, but I'm constantly frustrated by how much they're held back. Not only is dx9 support STILL incomplete, but it seems like they don't really care about dx10/11 support. Where does that leave us? Some sort of wine wrapper might be an option, if the game dev works with the wine team to make sure it works acceptably, and all the wine improvements got shared, of course.

May be some Steam users can contact Valve and ask whether the recent ad about Witcher 3 on SteamOS was legit or it was a prank?
