War Thunder MMO Coming To Linux

By -
War Thunder announced a little surprise for us in their E3 video! A Linux version that they have been showing off.

See their video:

It sounds like the Linux version is already far along, and they noted they are working on the game while they are there too.

About
War Thunder is a next generation MMO combat game dedicated to World War II military aviation, armored vehicles, and fleets. You will take part in all of the major combat battles, fighting with real players all over the world.

War Thunder offers a highly detailed and personalized aviation experience, giving players access to hundreds models of planes with detailed cockpits, dozens of upgradeable weapons, and flying skills that can be honed and improved with each mission. Thanks to the game’s painstaking attention to detail, you’ll truly feel like a World War II fighter pilot as you plunge into battle.

The genuine World War II experience isn’t limited to the skies. The massive historical battles featured in War Thunder cannot be fought by aviation alone, so the game will also expose players to combat on land and at sea.

This seems pretty good. A friend of mine has it on PS4 and talks it up a lot, so I can't wait to see how it plays. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

At least, devs think, that their game is MMO.
And about MMO. What MMO games I want to see on Linux - Planeside 2, Warframe and Hawken.

Quoting: edgleyThe Linux client is already working, it was playable there (just not by general public) -- they don't have any GUI for the launcher yet, which is holding them back.

Ironically, I was talking to my Dad about this yesterday (he's in the video).

You mean the linux client in the video?

30-40 Times the number of Linux gamers overnight ain't gonna happen. 5 to 10 times in the first 6 months may be.

Quoting: normWould be nice if World of Tanks got a port as well, but I think the proverbial pig will fly before that happens.

World of Tanks is Wargaming, War Thunder is Gaijin (same as Star Conflict). Wargaming have been much more resistive to non Windows platforms.

I didn't see a specific platform that was being used -- as far as I am aware the PC's in the centre console were Windows machines. They demoed Linux as was said in the video, but I don't think it was a hands on demo.

Not exactly. Wargaming sponsors LVEE for a long time. Also every conference they have some presentations, workshops, etc. Their servers runs GNU/Linux. They contribute a lot to GNU/Linux actually.

Does anyone knows if it will support joysticks? I have saitek X52 with rudder pedals, but I am not aware of many Linux titles supporting them (actually, I don't even know if X-Plane supports them under Linux).
AFAIK, KSP doesn't support joysticks on Linux yet.
