Terraria a very popular 2D sandbox game is alive once again thanks to a renewed push from developers, and in a recent update they noted Linux will be looking into after Mac (and Mac looks close). The game itself is something that helped make sandbox games as popular as they are today.
Originally development was meant to end in 2012, but in 2013 it gained a big "1.2" patch with more content, and it looks like development is still going on even now for new boss monsters and a Mac port.
Luckily I carried on reading on their forum and found this:

Fantastic news, as I'm sure there are a lot of Terraria fans lurking on Linux that would love to be able to play it natively.
About
Dig, fight, explore, build! Nothing is impossible in this action-packed adventure game. The world is your canvas and the ground itself is your paint.
Grab your tools and go! Make weapons to fight off a variety of enemies in numerous biomes. Dig deep underground to find accessories, money, and other useful things. Gather resources to create everything you need to make the world your own. Build a house, a fort, or even a castle. People will move in to live there and perhaps even sell you different wares to assist you on your journey.
But beware, there are even more challenges awaiting you... Are you up to the task?

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
I love Terraria to bits and have played it loads with wine and also native with the Linaria build that unfortunately does not support 1.2 AFAIK. Still I have better experience with the native client since most just works better.
As said indeed, Terraria is more about the digging and Starbound has all kind of complexes with guards on the top. There are some places below but nothing like the dungeons or random chest finds in Terraria.
Magicite is totally different since it's a roguelike and you start every game fresh. Even though if you play well a game can last for over an hour... but can easily also just take a few minutes. Procedural stuff ftw!
So in all, 3 great games that just play different but kinda look alike.
Now just to hope Edge of Space will also do a Linux client since they are getting Terraria content in it!

It's always a nice surprise when I see a new game in my Steam library which I had bought in my dual-boot days. A Valley Without Wind 1+2 lately, and Mount and Blade:Warband before that:D. Now, it appears that I'll find Terraria soon! It's a fine, fine time to be a Linux gamer!

Darn, I was hoping I had something to do with it. Somewhere in that thread (like page 20 or something) is me asking for a linux port lol. Even gave them some links to monogame2 and stuff. This is pretty much the only game I keep steam via wine around for and a native client would be amazing.
