Among The Sleep is a great looking game that sadly on Linux doesn't quite work right with many people unable to play, and no sign of a fix yet over a month later.

It's a real shame as the demo worked perfectly, but it seems like enough testing wasn't done on Linux as it's not exactly a small flaw. Users have offered up help in playing with debug builds, but the developers didn't bite sadly. You can see one of the posts asking for support on their Steam forum post here.

I don't think this is a problem with Unity allowing such easy publishing onto Linux. This seems more like a problem with enough testing just not being done again on our platform. Although it's not Linux only, as some Mac users have also reported the exact same issue. It is mostly an Nvidia issue with only two others stating it happens on Intel graphics.

Here's the issue:

The massive black lines aren't part of the game.

We contacted the developers and it's not good news:

@gamingonlinux We have unfortunately been unable to find a fix yet, but it is one of our top priorities on the list of things to fix.

I'm guessing they either don't have Linux testing boxes or just don't have Linux installed on a box with an Nvidia graphics card.

About
Among the Sleep is a first person horror adventure, in which you play a two year old child. After waking up in the middle of the night to mysterious sounds, you start exploring the dark looking for comfort.

We will keep you posted if they do find a fix, as we are quite excited to be able to play it.

Try to stay on topic. We've already had one huge argument about the XCOM 32-bit vs. 64-bit thing and I don't think we need to start another one here.

Quoting: AstroThe situation is quite similar to Slender Man's Shadow. They sell the game that actually doesn't work. I hate that kind of disrespect to the customers. Devs of Among The Sleep, XCOM, Slender Man's Shadow have already shown not good examples. How long this list will be?

32 bit is dying. Get over it.

I'd love to buy the game as soon as a fix is reported!

The difficulty in defending this dev is that their community has already found a fix for the headless baby bug, but they haven't yet posted that fix to their live Steam build in over a month. As for the graphical glitches, again, this is miscommunicated - the devs claim that it's only the first level that's affected, but on public forums they have buyers claiming it's all the way through the game... which remain unreplied.

It feels like Fun Pimps all over again. Great game, capable guys obviously, but a complete blackout in terms of communication. It's incredibly frustrating.

I backed this. I feel let down.

While I don't agree with the original title choice either, I do feel very let down and understand why Liam would use it. I backed these guys, pledged enough for two copies. To be over a month down the road with no assurances of being able to play is very disheartening. Now it's been a month since their last patch and there's been a blackout as far as updates go.

It's very maddening, and it's hard to understand why a developer that had seemed very legit seems to be snuffing you.

Seeing the standard on *most* games released for Linux today, there's not much reason to cut these guys a lot of slack. If a developer release an inferior version on, say, one of the console platforms, they are *slayed* in the media, amongst the gamers and everywhere.

The reasons for these issues are a deadly combo of using the Unity engine and not knowing this platform. They found this menu option in their Windows editor, "compile to Linux", and pressed play and hoped for the best.

Sorry, but that's just how it is.

Windows is mainstream. But linux guys may use wine or just install winndows to play their favourite game. And maybe one day devs fix their game. I think that's not a big deal to wait a month or two or even one year.
