While we know that Civilization: Beyond Earth a AAA class strategy game is coming to Linux we don't exactly know when. A press release was sent out recently which only gave us a date by name to Windows PC sadly.
What we do know is that Aspyr Media who ported Civ V will be porting this one too, so we know it will be a good port, but we don't know when it will come out now.

Here's to hoping we aren't kept waiting for too long. Quite annoying that we don't get a chance to get the Map Pack by pre-ordering, but hopefully we will get a sale like we did with Civ V and XCOM when they launched for Linux.

This map pack includes:
Kepler 186f: This lush forest planet is one of the oldest known Earth-like planets;
Rigil Khantoris Bb: Orbiting the closest star to our solar system, the historical records of this arid continental planet’s settlement are well-preserved;
Tau Ceti d: This planet of seas and archipelagos features a booming biodiversity and a wealth of resources;
Mu Arae f: Tidally locked in orbit around a weak star, the southern hemisphere of this planet is a blistering desert where the sun never sets, while the northern hemisphere is perpetually in frozen darkness;
82 Eridani e: An alien world of scarce water and wracked by tectonic forces;
Eta Vulpeculae b: A mysterious new discovery with unknown terrain.
Civilization: Beyond Earth for Windows PC is available for pre-order at participating retailers. The game is not yet rated by the ESRB and will be available globally for Windows PC on October 24, 2014 for a suggested retail price of $49.99.

Aaargh, that's a little concerning. I'm the sort of person who can't be sure about linux support until I actually have it running on my computer, let alone announced on the steam page. Same thing that has me worried about Witcher 3.

@Liam : on Firaxis website, it's explained that the MAC and Linux release will be done by Aspyr Media :

I hope there comes a day when Firaxis games are developed for Linux rather than ported, much less by an external studio.

Pretty sure won't take nearly as long, now that they have some experience with linux porting...and the fact it will be a target for development from the get-go

Very excited, plan on getting it as soon as it releases for Linux. A small delay is not a big deal for me. I waited two years for XCOM, after all.

I will wait until aspyr releases the game. I don't want to wait as much as I wait for civV (bought at lauch).
But I think that we will not have to wait that long. I am almost sure that the game engine is an evolution of the civV one. So, it should be fast.

If Aspyr, which did the AAA Linux port of CIV V, is doing C:BE, that is nothing but good news. I waited four years for a Linux port of CIV V, and three years for X-COM. It's not like I don't have games to play in the meantime:).
