Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition has a brand new beta version out that has some pretty nice improvements, and for Linux gamers they are great.

QuoteWe switched from SDL1 to SDL2, this should improve compatibility with modern OS and improve general stability of the game.
We've added gamepad support. You can bind button in Key Bindings menu or reset bindings to get default gamepad bindings.
Also we have fixed Overlay issues on OSX/Linux.

You need to opt-into the beta from within Steam to access it.

Let us know how it is! Be sure to check it out on Steam and kick some alien ass.

There are atleast 3 ways for Linux gamers to play Duke3D: Dosbox, Megaton Edition and EDuke32.

I noticed Aspyr has Duke Nukem Forever in its back-catalogue. Not that it would happen, but wouldn't it be amusing if DNF ever showed up on Linux? :P

To be honest current build on steam works pretty flawlessly for me...

I find EDuke32 to be a bit "overkill". Yes it does work with Duke3D without the hi-res graphics etc, but I find a program called "XDuke" runs perfectly with wine under linux.

XDuke was the way I played Duke3D in linux until Megaton Edition got official support, now I use that for online Co-Op.
