Fun little tidbit today folks as a developer of Payday 2 responded to a request post on the Steam forum asking for a Linux version of Payday 2.
Source
So, by no means confirmed, but it's good to see developers responding to requests in public for all to see. While nothing may come out of it we need to keep putting Linux into developers minds and so far it seems the Steam forum is a good place to do so as developers seem to actually monitor them.
We already know the game doesn't depend on DirectX since it's available on the Playstation, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.
About
PAYDAY 2 is an action-packed, four-player co-op shooter that once again lets gamers don the masks of the original PAYDAY crew - Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf and Chains - as they descend on Washington DC for an epic crime spree.
The new CRIMENET network offers a huge range of dynamic contracts, and players are free to choose anything from small-time convenience store hits or kidnappings, to big league cyber-crime or emptying out major bank vaults for that epic PAYDAY. While in DC, why not participate in the local community, and run a few political errands?
Thanks Magbed

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
This is a pretty big title. Is Linux gaming finally at the point where we can start expecting AAA games? I mean, Metro series, Civ 5, and now maybe Payday 2? I think so.

I used to get iffy about such articles, but after XCOM & Civ the big games are already here. Now we just need to keep pushing.

Oh, that would be great, the game is really good. People have been asking for a Linux port since the first game (as it already used an OpenGL-friendly engine) but until now it was a pretty firm "no plans for a Linux version".
Let's hope we won't get a similar answer as for Borderlands 2.

YES YES YES! Cant say how glad I'm to see this. I really hope this will happen. This game is something I'v spent alot of hours in. And its one step closer for me to use Linux 24/7. I only hope wow could get a linux port soon, I know they got one. Vanilla even hade a linux client when its was in beta. And if I can make a wish to santa, I would like to see GTA V get a linux version :).

Is Payday 2 still relevant? The other day I stated to an XCOM player that there wasn't as much activity as I expected for such a game. He then reminded me that the game was a couple years old. While it's not such an issue with XCOM, since the multiplayer is 1v1 and the single player is rich and lengthy, games like Payday 2 are strictly multiplayer. When the servers die the game dies.
Either way, good to see popular titles coming to Linux. Granted, I'm more keen to a solo affair ;)
Edit: Well shut my mouth; the game's more recent than I thought. Also, 40k players presently, so forget what I said :D ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN *Choo Choo*

Well, Payday 2 is a coop game and is best played with people you know. So, as long as you have three friends available, you can play it for years! ;)

I had to buy this game due to my friends who asked me a lot to play with them. :D
A GNU/Linux version will be nice for me. I thought it could be great when I was playing it few days ago.

I had friends bothering me to buy it so i could play it. So i bought it during the summer sale not knowing if it would run well in Wine, and it actually runs pretty smooth. A native Linux version of this would be most excellent.

It's such a hassle to run Parallels or Bootcamp. A native Mac build would make everyone's lives so much easier. The super dedicated Mac gamers use those programs, but really, the vast majority do not and need real ports in order to play these games.

Trying to get this game to run on Play on Mac... it's a bloody nightmare. There really isn't a solution to this, aside from a native Mac version.
Might as well add to the pool,
+1 for Mac.

The OP Rainbow, we're looking into it but nothing is confirmed.
They were talking about a Mac version.
I hope the developer was talking about a Mac AND Linux version though.
