Shovel Knight Looks Set To Be On Linux Soon

Shovel Knight is an awesome looking love letter to 8-bit games that was funded on Kickstarter some time ago. It had a Linux stretch goal that was hit and the developers have now teased it running on Linux.

The game really does remind me of some classics I used to play on the Sega Megadrive and my old Amiga 600/1200 (R.I.P) and looks really professionally done. I like the fact that it mixes in some cut-scenes as well. The art is in a class of its own compares to a lot of other 8-bit styled games that come out.

The game gained a massive following on Kickstarter last year to hit a whopping $311K against a target of $75K. With all the Kickstarter funded games to come out and to then go quiet on their Linux versions it's pleasing to see Shovel Knight get ready to deliver.

The game has been well reviewed across the internet, so it looks like a good quality game for us to have.

About
Shovel Knight is a sweeping classic action adventure game with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic. It's a hot mashup of new and old! You play as the eponymous Shovel Knight, a small knight with a huge quest. Shovel Knight has come to this land with two goals: to defeat the evil Enchantress and quest for his lost beloved. He wields a Shovel Blade: a multipurpose weapon whose techniques have now been lost to the ages. Always honest and helpful, Shovel Knight is a shining example of the code of Shovelry: Slash Mercilessly and Dig Tirelessly!

There doesn't seem to be a set date for the Linux version yet, but it shouldn't be too far off.

What do you think to it? Are you as excited as I am to give it a blast? Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I've watched a couple of playthroughs of the first few dungeons, and it looks fantastic. Apparently the controls feel really good too, it's high quality all 'round.

However, it's also the sort of game I'm terrible at, so I'll probably not be getting it myself.
