A redditor emailed in to highlight a post they made on reddit after going to SDCC where they spoke to the developers of The Witcher. The developers confirmed to them a Linux version of The Witcher 3 exists.

Take this with a grain of salt of course, as nothing is confirmed until the developers announce it themselves. Although if you remember a big splash image of The Witcher 3 coming to SteamOS did end up on Steam recently, and was quickly taken down.

The last we heard from the developers directly was an email stating Linux had not been announced.
QuoteCDPR probably is busy on TW3. I ran into some devs at SDCC and they confirmed to me that there WILL be a linux version of TW3.
Now all we need is a linux version of the goo- er, first Witcher game!

They had The Witcher 3 shirts on, their lanyards had the company on it, and they looked polish, so I asked them if they were perhaps CDPR devs. They said that they were, and so I shared that I was a fan and thanked them for atleast showing some interest in linux; I then asked them if the rumors that there would be a linux version of TW3 were true, and they said yes. (Definitely a polish accent, and I had seen other devs for other studios there; so I have no doubts that they were really from the studio)
They then gave me one of the leftover grab-packets that they had from the thursday panel and went on their way.
And just to be clear, they didn't say "Yes" when I asked if the rumors were true, but rather "there is a linux version of The Witcher 3".

Quoting: neffoAn anonymous redditor posting that he spoke to some Polish sounding people, and that they said it was happening. That is about the least convincing game confirmation I have heard since "my dad works for Nintendo".

I'd email CD Projekt and ask them.
Their lanyards also said that they were exhibitors, and said lanyards had CDProjekt Red on the handle.

I know you can't trust me until they confirm it to everyone, but I really am telling the truth; a CDPR dev told me that TW3 is coming to linux.

I was being facetious, I wasn't suggesting you personally were dishonest. I was suggesting the information wasn't particularly reliable. It was off the record, to start with. The guys with the shirts weren't necessarily speaking with authority. And, yes, you were a random redditor.

I'm suggesting a few more pinches of salt than Liam was.

As I said, there IS an interview with CDPR out there where they state they built the new engine for multi-platform support from the beginning, and that it will support Linux (natively).

Why would they miss out Linux sales when they added support for Linux in it?

There is an upcoming official interview on Gamescom in a couple of weeks, and the question about Linux support will be included if it will get enough votes. So please vote if you didn't yet (give that post a REDpoint).

Can you please point to that interview? I've never heard of it before.

I know next to nothing about The Witcher or anything else related to it, but I do know I would not be so quick to discount Yahtzee there Shmerl. ;)

I didn't really see his other reviews so I can't comment on him as a reviewer, but this one sounded more like an uninformed rant to me. If he wanted to get better informed, he could easily do it here: http://witcher.gamepedia.com

The game also features a good manual, and not reading it a poor excuse for ranting that alchemy / magic system doesn't make much sense.

Complexity of combat is known, but there is an arena mode which can be used for training without touching the main storyline.

The whole point of Zero Punctuation is Yahtzee's rapid fire and rather flippant delivery. Complaining about that is rather like your complaints about him not reading the manual to get into the game.

Although, there is very little point into getting into this argument further, so I digress.

I wasn't able to find such interview using various search engines, so if you indeed saw it, please give some reference.

Official interview on Gamescom 2014:

QuoteQ: Will Witcher 3 be coming to Linux?

A: It’s too early to say, we’re focusing on releasing it on PC, Xbox One and PS 4, same quality, same experience to all the players. We’ll see after that, Linux, Mac I guess it might be planned but I do not know about it yet.
