War in a Box: Paper Tanks has been on Linux for years without much appreciation, but now that it is on Steam it could see a new life.

The game was released on Desura in 2012, but since many people prefer Steam and other services i hope this gives the developers another chance at success as it's a good little game.

War in a Box is a tower defence game with some pretty good visuals and the unique style is still refreshing even this long after the release. While a lot of other games go for some sort of future look this game goes about it in a completely different way. Everything actually looks like it's made out of paper and cardboard, so it sticks quite well to the overall style which some games fail on.

Features:
- True 3D environment in each level
- Turret and air view with different zoom options
- Different game modes for different types of players
- Game speed controls for adjusting the intensity of action

We play tested some of it a long while ago and found it to be a pretty fun game, but like a lot of tower defence games once you have played a good few levels it can get repetitive which isn't a problem with the game itself, but a problem when games stick closely to the genre without too many unique features thrown in.

Check it out on Steam now. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

It looks like that visual style is getting a way too popular. Perfect examples is Lume and the other one is The Last Tinker.

Is the Linux version available outside Steam? Desura doesn't show it as available (at least for me).

You're right. As it seems it's only been available at the Ubuntu Software Center, so no wonder there hasn't been much appreciation for it.
