Today we have an important announcement to make for you, the GOL community. Before you go reading any further, please remain calm and read the whole article through before making any rushed decisions or leaving comments.
Liam, the founder and the chief editor of GamingOnLinux, has taken a break from writing for the website. He has had rough times for a while and it hasn't helped that he works online, where he's also exposed to a lot of hatred or comments he might interpret as being hateful. I'm not saying that you should feel guilty for any criticism you've left on the website, because I'm sure that many of you haven't meant it in a bad way.
Liam believes that his situation is rather serious and we should respect his decision to do something else for a while to clear up the things in his personal life. I ask you not to be angry at him. We all have our share of setbacks in life and Liam has had a plenty of them recently. It's not our job to judge whether or not he's capable of running the website at this moment, nor should we judge if these setbacks are his fault. We can only hope that he can get up on his feet soon.
So, what does this mean for the website?
Well, first of we are not going to simply give up and disappear. I will continue to write for GOL and I hope that other editors will also do that. But the rate of articles might be seriously affected. Liam was responsible for a huge majority of the articles per month and we might not be able to reach his speed. So, I'm asking for the community to step up and help us.
Many of you might already be aware of the possibility to write your own articles. This functionality has been around for at least as long as I've been involved in GOL. So, I'm asking you to help us by contributing articles about anything related to Linux gaming. Reviews, opinion pieces, organized events, giveaways, tutorials and news articles are all welcome. You won't be doing it for nothing either. If you submit enough quality articles, you will be given a “Contributing Editor” badge and eventually you might get promoted to full Editor status. These ranks will allow you to get premium features, like themes, an ad-less experience and any of the future premium features that we might add.
You can find the link to the article editor in the side-bar under the “Popular this week” and “View by category” sections. The link is named “Submit Article”, you can't miss it.
If you want more information about writing articles for GOL, feel free to pop into our IRC channel to ask questions or simply chat with us.
What about the GOL Supporters and Patreon patrons?
Supporters and patrons are the our biggest source of income, as far as I know. We've been mostly relying on your contributions to stay afloat. That means that you are very important for us, so losing you would be catastrophic. We'll try to keep up the quality you paid to support and we will do our best to get you your supporter badges if you have already paid for those.
Things might be a bit hectic for a while as we figure out how things like server costs, donation/ad incomes, user badges and article writing are handled. I'll try my best to keep in touch with Liam so that we can get everything sorted out.
Thank you for your support and keep calm.

Quoting: fleskI'm not a native English speaker but I'll try to contribute an article every now and then if it can be of any help.
Improving English is something I can do, tracking down news is something I personally can not promise to be able to do - so even if you are not entirely confident in your writing just giving us a framework for an article can still be a huge help.

Thanks for the work so far Liam, and I hope you get back to it again in not too long. The speed you had really baffled me at times, the number of articles you wrote and their lengths and depths. Interviews, editorials and straight up announcements, all really helpful. This site has become the #1 source for gaming on Linux, at a time when gaming on Linux is actually taking off and becoming even more exciting than when Loki were still around.
I hope you just need a breather and will be back soon, but thanks for the work done either way.

Thanks, I'll remember that the next time I feel tempted to write something. There's the announcement from Freebird Games that haven't been covered but that's old news by now.

It's sad to hear about your troubles Liam, I really hope things get better. It saddens me more that you have had negative comments and I would like to compensate a bit for that negativity by saying that you have made a great site and a great community surrounding it.
I'm sure lots of people will chip in and keep things going while you are away, we're Linux gamers after all. I'll add my bit and try and do a couple of articles per week.
Thanks for everything!

@Liam: I hope you'll get better soon, you were surely the main driving force behind the site!
If I'll come up with any ideas about articles, I can contribute.
