Crystal Picnic is a fantastic looking 2D RPG that is created as a tribute to the old action RPG games. Created by "Nooskewl" the developers of Monster RPG 2.

Crystal Picnic is a lighthearted and colourful tribute to the classic era of action RPGs! Join a sarcastic gardener and a wannabe knight as they journey across the kingdom chasing after ants who stole magic crystals from the castle. Oh, and did we mention the ants have gone mad because they're EATING those crystals? Yeah, that makes things much more unpredictable! Hours of exploration, mesmerizing platform-style combat, plenty of new friends to meet and loads of wacky enemies to encounter. When you fight chubby birds and ants carrying bazookas, you know you're in for a good time!
I just love that it mixes 2D side scrolling combat with a more top down overworld view while doing the adventuring. That kind of mix-mash of graphical styles pleases me for doing it at least a bit different.
Nooskewl are open source friendly too, as they released the Monster RPG 2 engine open source after an indiegogo funding campaign, so we may even see Crystal Picnic get open sourced in future.
They are also trying to get onto Steam, so be sure to give Crystal Picnic a vote on greenlight.

I don't usually buy direct from the developers, because having to register in every site is a nightmare. However, I would do it in this case because AFAIK no reseller includes the Android, GNU/Linux, Muck OS X, Windoze and OUYA versions. It's a good deal.

This one actually doesn't require you to register beforehand though. You get login credentials sent to the e-mail address registered with your PayPal account when you buy, and then just put them into a form when selecting which version you want to download. That's a pretty convenient solution.

I got this on Android, and I've got to admit it feels pretty finicky. Though I could just be the wrong demographic :P

It might not just be you. I tried the Linux demo and something felt off to me about the controls or the character movement, but I couldn't quite put my finger on what felt wrong. That said, I really like the look of the game, so I need to try it again sometime when I'm not tired.
