Time to get excited again Linux gamers! Dead Island has some hints that it will be coming to Linux! Yes it's another Zombie game, but it's a bit different. It has a big focus on melee combat and it can be quite brutal.
It's not surprising though since Deep Silver are the publisher and they are already Linux friendly.
On the SteamDB item for Dead Island are these brand new entries:
They were only added an hour ago, so it may be some ways off, but other games have popped up on SteamDB mere hours before they have dropped. It's not 100% confirmed
of course, but SteamDB entries are usually a good indication it's being work on.
Official About
Terror. Violence. Madness. Bedlam. A holiday paradise gone mad. A tropical island turns into total chaos after a mysterious zombie outbreak. Cut off from the rest of the world, the player’s only chance to survive is to fight to the death and find a way to escape from the island.
Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to four players in co-op mode.
Features
- First-person melee combat
- 4-player coop
- Weapon customization
- Set on an gorgeous open world tropical island
- RPG elements for character development
- Hordes of gruesome zombies
I can't wait to play some co-op in Dead Island, but judging from reviews the game can be a bit buggy at times, so here's to hoping if it really is coming to Linux that they fix it up a bit.
Final Important Note: Virtual Programming who did The Witcher 2 Linux version did the Mac version of Dead Island, so you may want to hold off on getting too excited just yet. It will probably use their eON tech and not be fully native.
Considering how they are fixing up The Witcher 2 though it could work out okay.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
OK it was just a matter of time. So maybe a games like Spec Ops: The Line will come too in the future.
But I have hopes for Dead Island 2, because it uses the UE4. ;-) And dont forget Dead Island Epidemic, which uses Unity3D ;-) And the Devs said they would love it to bring it to Mac and Linux.

Man I had fun with that game. Definitely one of the better ones I've played. Now all they need is a split screen option for some serious couch co-op @ss kicking.
I wonder if that means the Chrome engine will eventually be ported. I hope so. I've been proudly holding out on Windows XP, which means a lot of newer titles no longer run on my system, and techland's Hellraid and Dying light look awesome. I would love to take those for a spin in Linux.

+1 for multiplayer games always remembering to include a Co-op mode. I have so much more fun playing next to my brother than with dozens of strangers online.

Absolutely. I think I own every split screen title that's available, which is a sad few by the way. Now with steam streaming and big picture, and massive TVs, a lot more pc games are going to be moving into the lounge. Hopefully the devs get on board.

About an hour ago there was a new change:
QuoteChanged App Config
launch/2/config/oslist: linux
launch/2/description: Launch
launch/2/executable: run.sh
so the likelihood increases.
