Time to get excited again Linux gamers! Dead Island has some hints that it will be coming to Linux! Yes it's another Zombie game, but it's a bit different. It has a big focus on melee combat and it can be quite brutal.

It's not surprising though since Deep Silver are the publisher and they are already Linux friendly.

On the SteamDB item for Dead Island are these brand new entries:
QuoteChanged Depots

91319/config/oslist: linux
91319/name: Dead Island Linux

They were only added an hour ago, so it may be some ways off, but other games have popped up on SteamDB mere hours before they have dropped. It's not 100% confirmed
of course, but SteamDB entries are usually a good indication it's being work on.

Official About
Terror. Violence. Madness. Bedlam. A holiday paradise gone mad. A tropical island turns into total chaos after a mysterious zombie outbreak. Cut off from the rest of the world, the player’s only chance to survive is to fight to the death and find a way to escape from the island.

Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to four players in co-op mode.

Features
- First-person melee combat
- 4-player coop
- Weapon customization
- Set on an gorgeous open world tropical island
- RPG elements for character development
- Hordes of gruesome zombies

I can't wait to play some co-op in Dead Island, but judging from reviews the game can be a bit buggy at times, so here's to hoping if it really is coming to Linux that they fix it up a bit.

Final Important Note: Virtual Programming who did The Witcher 2 Linux version did the Mac version of Dead Island, so you may want to hold off on getting too excited just yet. It will probably use their eON tech and not be fully native.
Considering how they are fixing up The Witcher 2 though it could work out okay. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: frostworktree -if . | grep -i eon | wc -l

looks good so far.

Doesn't mean anything IMHO.

The download is obviously not complete yet.
Apart from that, it shouldn't be too hard get along
without any eon/vp strings in this and future "ports".

After all:

Dead Island is explicitly listed on Virtual Programming's website.
