Metro 2033 Redux is confirmed for Linux, but the actual release date isn't certain yet. Luckily thanks as usual to the excellent SteamDB it looks like it's coming sooner rather than later.
The official announcement of the Redux versions did note the Linux builds would come at a later date, but it may not be too far.
Metro 2033 is to me the better of the two games and much more intense than Last Light, but I imagine there's a lot of Linux gamers who haven't played the first one. For me it was played on an old games console I no longer own, so for me it's more about the updated visuals.
Anyway here's the scoop from a few minutes ago:

I am very much looking forward to both this and Metro Last Light Redux to complete the updated experience on Linux. Nothing has been added to the Last Light Redux database yet, so it may only be 2033 Redux for the moment.
Official Overview
Metro 2033 Redux is the definitive version of the cult classic ‘Metro 2033’, rebuilt in the latest and greatest iteration of the 4A Engine for Next Gen. Fans of the original game will find the unique world of Metro transformed with incredible lighting, physics and dynamic weather effects. Newcomers will get the chance to experience one of the finest story-driven shooters of all time; an epic adventure combining gripping survival horror, exploration and tactical combat and stealth.
All the gameplay improvements and features from the acclaimed sequel ‘Metro: Last Light’ have been transferred to Metro 2033 Redux – superior AI, controls, animation, weapon handling and many more – to create a thrilling experience for newcomers and veterans alike. With two unique play-styles, and the legendary Ranger Mode included, Metro 2033 Redux offers hours of AAA gameplay for an incredible price.

The last video they showed to compare the graphis really did not make the Redux version look good. It was so much more generic, much less grittier than the original.

I really hope this has an advanced graphics menu and not some stupid single bar.
You can't even specify the damn resolution.
They'll get my money if they give us graphics options on par or better than the Windows version.

I think I'd love this, but I don't think on my computer I'll be able to play it due to high graphics requirements (4 year old Alienware X51...).

Man I sure hope it is soon. Im very much itching to play them and I'm not so sure ill be able to wait more than a couple of weeks before I give in and load at least 2033 up on windows. Ive been a good penguin so far though. I want the stats for the games on my account to at the very least show that I installed them and played them all the way through on linux first. I know ill end up installing on win after to do some comparison shots between the two. It is my understanding that this will not be as gimped on linux as the original LL was due to the outdated ogl used in order to support mac. There will supposedly be very little if any difference in visuals between the linux and win version.
Hopefully there will be less issue for the linux launch.. looking through the forum on steam the win crowd was/is having some pretty serious issues.

Looks like 64-bit only too...Is that a :) or :( thing ? My opinion on 32vs64 is this: unless you have an old PC, or are using a memory constrained system/very small disc or have a very good reason not to, you should be using 64bit. Unless you can grantee 100% you will never add more then 4GB before reinstalling your Linux.
Of course supporting 32bit would sill be nice though :)

Did anyone else see that the humble store version of redux already has the penguin icon and the release date is set to 29 August? https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p/metro_redux_bundle_storefront
Is that a mistake? because they said it will release later this this year. Maybe it is a surprise :P

instead of that, why don't you buy it if it is good?

were you planning on playing it on an ancient atom laptop? if your distro has problems with 64bit it's time to change distros.

Oh, so they're dropping support for Mac? I thought I'd seen that somewhere before (and looking at SteamDB there are only depots for Windows and Linux at the moment), but I wasn't sure.
Would be nice if Linux catches up with Mac in number of games on Steam within a couple of years.

I sent Humble an e-mail regarding the penguin icon. I'm assuming it's a mistake, but it doesn't hurt to clarify :)

That is "word on the street" anyhow. As far as I can find they have never said it was coming to mac at all. Ive seen some early articles that mention mac, I guess they were just making assumptions because I have not seen anything directly from 4A that mentions mac. Considering the whole point of these versions was to make them look and run better, it kind of makes sense. They already did the best they could do with the archaic OGL used by apple. Apple did bump up to 4.1 with mavericks and has stuck with it for Yosemite as well.. so they are still behind. *laughs*

Hopefully it will be out by the end of this year. I want to buy it for myself as well as a friend who is also a Linux user.
