Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth is going to rock the strategy world when it gets released. We already know the Linux release will be delayed, so for now here's a new awesome trailer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0Jx6GVxuPQ&feature=youtu.be

I've spent more time than I thought in Civ V, so this will be a must pick up for me. The new more sci-fi setting is a welcome change too. Yes I know they also had Alpha Centauri, but this will do for now as a good mix.

I think it looks absolutely fantastic and the art style is actually quite beautiful. I loved seeing it zoom out see a satellite, now that's the kinds of experience I like to see.

Good graphics? Check. Tried and tested turn based mechanics? Check. Big satellite weapons? Check. Okay I'm sold.

What are your thoughts on it? Will you get it? Sound off in the comments. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

It's got a lot of great, must-buy things.

What it *doesn't* have is any hint of a release date. In fact, they've been back-pedaling on the topic of the Mac/Linux release and going hard-radio-silence on the matter for the last several weeks. Very, very frustrating.

No doubt. Never played the original Alpha Centauri but have played Civs 3-5 so will be nice for a change. I like the whole idea of your civilization (or space colonizers or whatever) taking different paths and becoming drastically different depending on the choices you make, which makes for a bit of a change from Civ where the course of things is fairly predictable (especially in the late game). From what I have seen, you can have one game of this followed by another and they can almost play like completely different games.

Speaking of the late game, that's always been a problem for Civ (somewhat better in 5 than in 4, but still) so I hope that's something that they improve on here. It's either far too easy or descends into a mutually assured destruction deadlock (depending on victory types, etc). There was the case of that Civ 2 gamesave which had been going on for 10 years and the guy challenged people to try and beat the game - http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/uxpil/ive_been_playing_the_same_game_of_civilization_ii/

The game looks like it would be really fun. It is really going to be painful to wait for the Linux release. They have it listed as soon after the Windows release. I hope they don't pull a Larian on us.

Blinken graphics are great for trailers and all, but when it comes to actual gameplay, I wonder if there will be option to switch to the strategic view like in Civilization V.

I tried Civ5 in my laptop (it's kind of old, Im using the r600 free driver) using linux, and it runs very good. But its difficult to figure out how to play it, so I get bored.

When I heard the GNU/L version was going to be delayed I felt pain.

Ugh the Linux version has been delayed? <Vader scream>

I think the delay has to do with Ubuntu 14.10 releasing in October and the new Civ will have to be thoroughly tested on this new release.

Looking forward to another perfectly stable release from Aspyr.

There is no delay, apparently they never intended to simultaneous release on all platforms. Since they are using another company to port, they pretty much would have had to delay the Windows release for it to happen.
