We know that the Trine Enchanted Edition major update to Trine will come to Linux, but we don't know when yet sadly. The good news is they may do a beta for the Linux version.
A little history on the subject: The Linux port of Trine never appeared on Steam, sadly, but we found out why thanks to FutureSuture. It was due to the original port being outsourced.
We then found out it was delayed with an interview thanks to Cheeseness.
Now the developers have taken to the Steam forum to mention this:

It's sad, but developers have to prioritise and it seems Linux right now is on the lower end of the scales. We hope it will be out before the end of this year so we can all appreciate Trine in its full glory.
About Trine Enchanted Edition
The Enchanted Edition is a free update for Trine with added features, such as the online multiplayer. The updated version does not impact the original game. Instead, both versions are available and can be selected from the game launcher. At the moment the Enchanted Edition is only available in Steam for Windows, but we will be adding the Mac and Linux versions afterwards.

QuoteFor now, we don't have a set release date for the Linux or Mac versions yet, so you might have to wait a while - but we're working on them, and we'll look into the possibility of a beta a bit closer to their release. :) Can't make any promises about this though.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
At least it comes. That's more we get from most other games out there.

"both versions are available and can be selected from the game launcher"
That will only applies to the windows version, the linux version will be just the enchanted edition.

Trine 2 is fun, so I will probably be buying this one once it is on Linux :D
And why do I have this funny felling that we will still see Trine on Linux before 7 Days To Die?

I own both Trine games DRM free as well as on Steam but only played a few levels of the original and just wait for the Steam version now.

Quoting: nllaAre there any gameplay caveats for the enchanted edition in comparison to the original one? If not then it's no big deal I guess.Trine EE is basically Trine 2 modded to replace its levels by the ones from Trine. So there are a few changes like the characters skills being the ones from Trine 2 (a few of theme were different from the first episode) and some small gameplay modifications. Not a big deal in any case.
I guess this was a bit more detailed on a previous article here, or maybe I saw that on the Steam forums.
EDIT : I've found a pretty complete post there: http://steamcommunity.com/app/35700/discussions/0/35221584417695911/ (see Daemonologist's post)

In another words.... this is some kind of "Trine Redux", where they just "remade" the first game using the engine and other improvements from the second game.... I'm fine with that :D

GOG does not even have the Mac OS client up yet. I doubt it, but perhaps GOG is waiting for the Linux client to release first so that it can upload both clients at once.

Quoting: nllaI would prefer to have the original trine available in steam linux too, due to trine 2 runs very slow even on windows, so on linux it will be unplayable (I have to use the r600 driver).Quoting: edo"both versions are available and can be selected from the game launcher"Are there any gameplay caveats for the enchanted edition in comparison to the original one? btw, the humble-bundle trine version does not work either.

I started trine2 for linux but stopped when I heard about trine1 coming. Never played either game so I figured I would wait to be able to play through T1 first. T2 although not exactly in my comfort zone is quite fun though.
