Ziggurat is a great looking mix of hectic FPS fighting and dungeon crawling, but it has been released with some major issues.

It's of course worth noting that it is an Early Access game and so bugs will be fixed.

The first major issue is that on Linux currently you need to turn the graphics down to low to remove the unplayable lighting issues, but it's confirmed to the developers and a fix should come next week. Even on low settings the game still looks fantastic.

The next major flaw is that there seems to be a complete lack of a save game feature, so with anyone who has a slightly busy lifestyle you may want to pass on it until the developers decide to put one in. I can't imagine myself ever spending time with it to enjoy it properly without being able to save my progress. The developers don't seem to think it's an issue either. Do you think it's an issue? If your game lasts more than 5 minutes and a save game feature isn't on your radar then to be frank you're not thinking about your players enough.

Another flaw is sadly it constantly thinks that I have my controller attached, and doesn't give me the option to switch to keyboard bindings, so everything on screen says A, B, Y which is annoying, but they are looking into it.

Check Ziggurat out on Steam now. There's a lot to like about it even now, but make sure you have some free time set aside for it.

Official About
Ziggurat is a dungeon crawling FPS, with procedurally generated scenarios and encounters. You'll face dozens of treacherous enemies while you find new and powerful spells, and learn helpful perks in your quest to overcome this deadly test.

Fight allmighty bosses, get through rooms filled with traps, and treasures that may help you in your journey... Each game is a whole new experience!

The game features a dark fantasy setting, inspired in the classic games Heretic/Hexen, with original gameplay mechanics and unlockable weapons/perks that enhance replayability. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Looks awesome, this game will be an instant buy for me as soon as I get home.

I love old games like Hexen I / II, Heretic, ... :)

looks great like the old-school RPG's like heretic and hexen, might pick it up once bugs are fixed
with the game only lasting 40 minutes though, i will probably wait till it's on sale

I used to think the low playtime in this type of game was an issue, but then I was playing Luftrausers the other night and realised that it's the same game over and over and all you're changing is how your plane looks/flies/attacks. The rest is identical.

I still managed to play it for hours without bothering. It's randomly generated each play through and spectacularly slick. Not going to compete with MetroLL, but still a viable way to lose an evening.

That's only if you do very well! I'm as good as the next FPS guy, and it took me quite a while to figure out how to pass one "level" without dying.

I'd also like to say that I've had NO graphical glitches on my Intel-only Ubuntu laptop.

From the developer:

QuoteBTW, I'm fairly sure we're the only Linux/Mac game made on Unity that properly supports Xbox 360 gamepads, including vibration. Why I'm so sure? Because Unity sucks at gamepad input and we had to code all gamepad input ourselves, and make it work on Linux and Mac.

this swayed me to buy the game. If there are bugs initially I'll just patiently wait for the updates!

Actually, bought it and I haven't seen any visual bugs yet, except on my Intel HD4000 but that was fixed by updating to latest oibaf ppa (mesa 10.3). Also tried it on an Nvidia GTX660, worked fine.

The mouse issues and the graphical glitches got fixed. It runs really nice now and is a lot of fun :)

I finally caved and bought the game; not regretting it ^^
