7 Days To Die has been a bit of an up and down saga for Linux, but with new information it may finally come soon.

On the SteamDB entry for it Linux has been re-added to the "oslist" which has to be set manually, so it looks like something is happening.

It has been a long time coming and I really hope the wait was worth it. Sadly the developers have been pretty silent about Linux since the crowdfunding campaign which upset a few Linux gamers myself included who pledged only for the Linux version. I never understand why developers choose to be quiet about promised ports, but it's their decision.

From what we do know they used a middleware that wasn't well supported on Linux, and that has been holding them back. They stated in April that they weren't able to get a 64bit version out due to this, but they had hoped to at least do a 32bit version.

Then later in June one of their volunteer moderators went on a bit of a crusade against any Linux users asking questions and banned me from their Steam forum with a message of "Stink on this". The message then was that some middleware was badly broken on Linux and had many issues, so it seems the earlier note about it being about 64bit wasn't entirely true.

It was already pointed out that using an updated version of the middleware they use from a different Unity-built game enabled Linux gamers to play, so we still don't know exactly what the hold up has been, and probably never will truthfully.

I can't wait for this little saga to be over, and to finally have 7 Days To Die on Linux. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

In other news: Half-Life 3 will be released on next Tuesday and Hell has frozen over.

Once upon a time, I was excited for this game. However, as the saga has unfolded, it has become apparent that the developers are deceitful at best, and I won't be supporting any products they develop with my custom.

Even if they do ever pull their fingers out of their backsides, I sincerely doubt that they'd make much effort to support the game on Linux (fixing bugs, crashes, responding to user feedback, etc).

No matter what people say, but mentioning a promised port in updates doesn't take any extra time out of people's day. That is what bugs me the most about it.

Basically they won't release it.

I dont see how it took them so long, when using that Unity empty Project exec with the 7 days to die data files worked very well for me. I had no crashes, and no performance issues.

Another crowdfunded game gone wrong. What a shocker.
