It took longer than we ever hoped, but Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is finally in opt-in beta for Linux. It may have taken over a year and a half, but they really are about to deliver on their promise. Better late than never right?

The password is "marchofpenguins", so you need to use that on the beta section of the game properties on Steam.

Is it okay to buy this game now? Linux isn't listed in the store yet and I want to make sure whoever needs to get credit for the Linux port does.

Is the snark in the title necessary? :(

Liam is allowed to have some editorial voice; he is hardly being all that unfair to them.

Quite too expensive for a 15-years-old game. Waiting for a discount before buying it. (I could get the CDROM edition ten years ago, from a store, for 15 euros...)

I'm ok with that, but it is pretty much all he is saying about this release. It seems there were lots of contractual issues beyond the control of the guys doing it, but that isn't mentioned. It only launched on Steam for Mac a two months ago, as best I can tell. Isn't that a touch unfair?

And it'd be nice if he mentioned that it is actually a very good port. I just played four hours of it without a crash, a glitch or a bug.

We covered the issues in other posts. It's not unfair in my eyes to be promised a port and be left waiting to say "finally" in a title.

It would be nice if I could test out every game released for Linux now wouldn't it, but that requires a lot of money. I do not own it to comment on the quality, so I would rather not lie about it.

It plays fine on Manjaro as well, no glitches or anything else.

Played the tutorial, But the gameplay it drives me a bit crazy, having troubles with controlling the characters, casting spells, fighting etc

I got Baldurs Gate 2 as well as a gift just to have it there in case Linux kicks in...
according to steamdb is very close as well...
