Great news to wake up to this morning folks! On the official Counter Strike blog the developers noted work about the Linux client for the newest iteration of the Counter Strike franchise.

- Updated a large number of systems necessary for the Linux client.

I have been excited to play this for a long time as the Arms Race mode in Counter Strike Global Offensive is seriously fun and gets really heated when people hit the final weapon.

Official About
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago.

CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

The interesting thing about Counter Strike Global Offensive is it that it has been serving up time-limited DLC. These DLC packs contain community maps that get added into the official matchmaking for a limited time. It gives money back to the modders who create them for each purchase, and that's awesome.

They also in a more recent update introduced weapon "skins" much like the customization found in Call of Duty games. This enables you to make your weapons feel a little bit more personal. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Counter Strike is played by a lot of people, this is definitely good news. I've been looking forward to this for a long time now. :-)

Quoting: MetallinatusYes! I've been waiting long for this one too!
After that L4D will be the only Valve game to not offer a Linux version yet :D
Not exactly a game, but I hope Source Film maker gets ported too ;)
Don't forget the rest of the tools as well!

Yep, with for example Hammer being updated to source 2 I hope they'll take cross compatibility into account!

Glad to see there is still work on this. I played CS in the past, and probably would be fun to jump in and play it on linux from time to time, since I already own CS:GO.

And probably Insurgency (source based game) will be next, since the devs depends on CS:GO to get started -> Insurgency on Linux?

Double trouble.

New World Interactive, stated that its game Insurgency would be ported to linux at the moment CSGO, made his way.

They need some source code from CSGO once ported, since Insurgency takes a lot of CSGO as base.

Yes!!! Finally!

Bought that game a year ago expecting for a Linux release. Did that only because it's Valve and at that moment I had a "Investing for the future" minding but I never tought it would take so long...
