Update: It's now out for Linux!
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive looks like it will finally enter beta for Linux soon thanks to information from SteamDB.
Then more was added:
Info above just added to the SteamDB entry for CSGO
We already knew the CS: GO developers were gearing up for Linux from their recent blog post, but we didn't think it would be this soon!
This is fantastic news! I look forward to rescuing those hostages, but I mostly look forward to the Arms Race mode which gets really intense for quick runs.
We have been waiting a while on this one, so I expect you all to play lots of it and tell us how it is once it is released. To be clear it is not yet out, but it hopefully will be soon.
Official About
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago.
CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

Just took a spin and except for the crashing, I had the same experience.... through I did manage to bug the game even more and.... kinda walk :D
The bots couldn't move properly as well, so I got an achievement for winning a round without any enemy dying and it was all worth in the end!
But seeing the game up and running on Linux is already heartwarming :)

Yes, jump and move, but it's unplayable xD
I have only sound of some weapons and explosions, my FPS is good "100-120fps" with maximum quality and all filter to max

Seems to be running really well for me @ 1920x1080 with everything maxed out. I've only been playing offline bot matches so I can't attest to "online" games yet. It does suffer from the same problems as the rest of the source engine games when it comes to running it on 3 monitors though. Mainly, everything appears to default to it's lowest setting no matter what I have set in the options.

My linux steam client downloaded the DirectX setup files. Also in put some mss* files in bin/ ,
namely mssdolby.flt, mssds3d.flt, mssdsp.flt, msseax.flt, mssmp3.asi, msssrs.flt. Are these actually used?

After playing this for a few hours I can say that online works good, and that the game itself runs amazingly well even on high settings and 1080p. There are some issues with the mouse not showing up when the server ad window comes up but you can press enter to get past it.
CS:GO is the only reason I kept my Windows 7 partition... It has since been removed.
