Keeping track of the Linux port of Dead Island shows that the developers are working pretty hard on it.

In the last week alone they have put up 6 private Linux builds, and changed the executable going by the SteamDB entry.

The game uses the developers in-house Chrome Engine which they are currently making a "next-gen" version of, so it is possible Chrome Engine 6 will be including a Linux port and that Dead Island is being updated to it.

Well that or they are adding it into Chrome Engine 5 which brings the possibility of more games to come that use it like Dead Island: Riptide, Call of Juarez: The Cartel and Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. I'm not saying any will though, so let's not jump to conclusions.

We have reached out to the publisher (again) to see if they will confirm the Dead Island Linux port to us. Don't hold your breath though they didn't reply last time!

Official About
Terror. Violence. Madness. Bedlam. A holiday paradise gone mad. A tropical island turns into total chaos after a mysterious zombie outbreak. Cut off from the rest of the world, the player’s only chance to survive is to fight to the death and find a way to escape from the island.

Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to four players in co-op mode. One question: Dead Island has been indexed in Germany and so I can't buy it on Steam. However, if I buy a Steam code at another shop and redeem it for my account, will I be able to play it in my country?

Good question! I would like to know this for myself too. If that doesn't work, maybe antoher GOL user might be able to help you out there and gift the game by steam.

Between this and the other titles I may never have a day where I don't check SteamDB :P (as opposed to several months of XCOM not too long ago)

Lots of discounts don't make it easy to wait for the Linux version before buying. But I'm trying to contain myself this time. ;-)

I've been on a similar situation with a F.E.A.R. DLC. So I asked a Steam friend from US to buy it for me and he sent it to me as a gift.

I think its confirmed. Cause in my steam library on linux. Dead island are listen in the game list. I can download it but I cant play it. It says missing executable. When the game is fully ported I guess u get an update so u can play it.

Its the same story with borderlands 2. Its in my library but I cant play it at the moment.

I wonder if the new engine update will fix some of the bugs the windows version hade

I had the same problem with Skyrim. I could not buy it from steam but I could buy it at store and then activate at steam. Only drawback was no steam sales. Was forced to pay full prics :'(

@LIAM

Dead Island (1) and Dead Island: Riptide is made by Poland developers and publisher - Techland. They made Dead Island series for Deep Silver publishers, so all right to series have Deep Silver. Original autors (Techland) no more working on series, no making other game like Dead Island 2 or MOBA Dead Island: Epidemic.
Port for Mac version Dead Island create Virtual Programing the same guys who making The Witcher 2 port... so is possible they use eON wrapper.

Next I think is not native game but eON.

You write that they Techland create, the engine Chrome Engine 6, but can not be applied in these games, because they already do not work for them, they have no rights to them. That is why they do their other games.

An example of nex-gen game from Techland is excellent Dying Light.
