Even though we still haven't gotten the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition the developer has noted on twitter that Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition is already in testing for Linux, and it's promising.

We are currently testing Linux #IWDEE and so far it looks great.

We did quizz Trent on Baldur's Gate and he gave us this answer:

@gamingonlinux We're doing IWD:EE first, with the other games to follow

— Trent Oster (@TrentOster) September 19, 2014

We hope Trent and his team do good on their word and do give us both games, but getting Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition is still fantastic for those like me who never actually got around to playing the original.

It's also a bit odd the only place Linux is mentioned on the official website is on their Steam store "coming soon" label.

About Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition

In the northernmost reaches of the Forgotten Realms lies the region of icy tundra known as Icewind Dale. Journey deep into the Spine of the World mountains, a harsh and unforgiving territory settled by only the hardiest folk. Beneath the carven glaciers and mountainsides, you must confront an evil that schemes to wreak destruction upon the face of Faerûn. This is the world of Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition.

Originally released in 2000, Icewind Dale is a Dungeons & Dragons game set in Wizards of The Coast's legendary Forgotten Realms. This Enhanced Edition allows players to experience the epic adventure on PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Android tablets and phones, and includes a host of new features.

I bought BG:EE back in 2013 on the promise of Linux port "soon" and I'm still waiting. Didn't do the same mistake with BG2:EE, but I'll buy it as soon as the penguin icon pops up, same for IWD:EE and any other D&D remakes they're planning.

I really hope people don't fall for the hype and buy the game before its release. Don't give someone money before receiving the product or service.

I think that strangely the meaning of the word "soon" in the context of Linux game development is to be understand as "maybe one day that will happen", I'm not sure of why but that seems to be the way it is.

Also, that's great news. Testing shouldn't take more than a month, right ?

Bought some time ago on GOG.com (of course, it runs great under wine) and, while it's no Baldurs Gate, but it's good fun bashing monsters in a non-Diablo way.
