With all the doom and gloom recently about games here's a nice one. The head of Chucklefish has created a blog post about how healthy Starbound is and will continue to be.

QuoteChucklefish could fund the development of Starbound for another 9 years at least. Even if we didn’t make another penny in that time. This includes all our office costs, salaries and every other kind of company expenditure. Not only that but every member of the team is super dedicated to getting Starbound to where THEY want it to be. Which is 1.0 and beyond.

That's crazy to think they are doing that well when other more prominent developers are not. It just goes to show not only is it an interesting game a lot of people have already spent their money on, but how good their managing of their finances are.

For those still waiting on the massive stable update of Starbound to come (like me) you can opt-in to their nightly builds anytime on Steam to see how it is progressing.

Even in the state it is in right now it's amazingly fun, but I am personally waiting for the big update to be pushed out to the stable branch so that I don't lose a character overnight.

Official About
In Starbound, you take on the role of a character who’s just fled from their home planet, only to crash-land on another. From there you’ll embark on a quest to survive, discover, explore and fight your way across an infinite universe.

You’ll encounter procedurally generated creatures and weapons, discover populated villages and abandoned temples. Explore planets dotted with dungeons, eyeball trees and treasure. Make use of over a hundred materials and over one thousand in-game objects to build a sprawling modern metropolis or a sleepy secluded cabin in the woods, and do all of it alone or with friends! I guess it's kind of like Terraria, but in a larger world. It's really fun, and easy to understand quests.

Love to see that things are going so well for them, don't regret buying it when I did. Played 24 hours of it so far. Still not really tired of it.

Ditto. I've put around 10 hours in the stable and another 20 in the nightly, and even wiping the whole universe and starting back from scratch is great fun. I grew tired of Minecraft in no time, but Starbound never fails to entertain me. The variety of biomes and tasks, the whole space exploration thing... Just never gets old for me.
Chucklefish may not be the best as far as PR goes (just one look at the Steam forums show that they're flooded with "OMG THIS IS A SCAM" thread), but they're getting stuff done at a very reasonable pace, and this blog post is very reassuring and comforting.

Here's to devs who actually deliver. Hopefully their next games will be as good as this one.
