Sword of the Stars: The Pit is now available on Linux, but not the Vanilla edition to avoid confusion.

If you already have the standard game somehow you need to buy the Gold Edition DLC to play it on Linux. It's a bit confusing as that DLC states it needs another DLC which it does not!

It seems you cannot buy the game by itself anymore and have to buy it as the Gold Edition now anyway, so it doesn't really matter. We could argue that forces you to buy the DLC, but it gives you the complete game, so again it doesn't really matter.

The performance seems fine and everything works as expected. There is no full-screen support yet, but the developer did note that it will come.

So, if you do wish to play The Pit on Linux (and don't already own the original) be sure to grab the Gold Edition, otherwise just get the Gold Edition DLC.

The developer took to the Steam forum to let everyone know about it:
QuoteHi folks! Sorry for the confusion. The build you have been seeing was a beta build that should have only been visible internally.

As with the Mac version, the Linux version is only be available to users who have purchased the Gold. The Gold Edition Upgrade is currently discounted until Sept 30th (which does NOT require Mind Games as the description suggests, only the base game).

I uploaded a new build, which will still show up as v1.4.1. Fullscreen support was causing problems, so it is disabled until it can be fixed, but the right-clicking has been fixed.

Enjoy the long weekend! Expect to have an update with Fullscreen support soon!

Sword of the Stars: The Pit is a fun, fast, light-hearted turn-based RPG, where the tradition of Rogue and other old school dungeon-diving games meets the sci-fi Sword of the Stars universe, where the question to ask isn't "Did you make it to the end?" so much as "How far did you make it into The Pit before the monsters got you?"
