Valve went to the DebConf this year and did a talk about SteamOS, and the video is finally up for viewing!

About DebConf (taken from the official site)
DebConf is the Debian Project's developer conference. In addition to a full schedule of technical, social and policy talks, DebConf provides an opportunity for developers, contributors and other interested people to meet in person and work together more closely. It has taken place annually since 2000 in locations as varied as Canada, Finland and Mexico.

Previous Debian Conferences have featured speakers from around the world. They have also been extremely beneficial for developing key Debian software components, including the new Debian Installer, and for improving Debian's internationalization. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

65" TV, yeah right… I wonder what he uses to watch movies in his olympic swimming pool.

I have an 86" screen. $300 for projector and $120 for 86" projection screen. That's about the cost of a 42" LCD screen.

Someone should have asked if Half Life 3 would be a SteamOS exclusive.

This was a pretty interesting talk. It was quite informative and revealed a lot of details I hadn't seen before. Notably:

• Steam Runtime maintains binary compatibility for common libraries separate of the distro
• There are automatic updates and they are handled at shutdown
• Steam game crash handling, via overlay, is implemented
• Native TV timings are preserved throughout
• Has a pretty boot sequence
• Valve is contributing to better Intel graphics performance
• Improved Xbox 360 controller support added, and out-of-the-box support for more controllers being worked on

I'm a bit surprised other game news sites haven't picked it up yet.

I am surprised that the video came out that late when the other debconf videos have been out for something like 2 weeks.

The quality of the audience's question is ... questionable
