The Witcher 2 for Linux is now fully DRM-free and available to buy from GOG, but be warned the GOG team accidentally put up an older version.
Our contact at VP who did the port let us know GOG are aware of it and will issue an update soon, so no need to fret. Looks like GOG dropped the ball on this one, but it should all be sorted soon.

Thanks for that! I was waiting for GoG version as I own physical Witcher 2 CE (+GoG) and don't have Steam version. VP port is not allowing me to play with acceptable performance on GF 9800 GTX+ (yes, I know it's kinda old card, but I get stable 60 FPS on High on Windows) unfortunatelly. I'm looking forward to threading improvements. It would be great from VP if they still share new delta packages (with beta fixes) to GoG people.

If you own the steam version, you can move the CD key to gog.com and then you get access to all versions.

A friend told me that the link worked for his steam versions(never tried it, I bought the games again).They work. I backed up both Witcher 1 and 2 from Steam to my GOG account.

Just installed the GOG release and the patch from VP. It runs great with everything on max and Ubersampling disabled (using Nvidia Geforce GTX 680). But I didn't test it extensively yet.

If you download the game directly by your account, it's the same way than Windows when you download the game without GoG downloader -> The download is very very slow
The solution is to use lgogdownloader which use the GOG API :

lgogdownloader package exist for Archlinux, Debian Wheezy and Ubuntu.
For example, to download the French Linux version of TW2 :
lgogdownloader --download --no-extras --platform 4 --language 4 --limit-rate 2000 --game the_witcher_2
--platform 4 = Linux
--language 4 = French

VP, which took several metric tons of abuse on the release of W2, has made good on their work, and major props to them for making their latest eON available.
So, VP, Aspyr and Feral should be held up as exemplars of Linux porting. I'll also add the folks at Paradox, whose Crusader Kings 2 native port was excellent, and who released Europa Universalis IV for Windows, Mac and Linux all on the same day. Not to mention the several other games they publish.
In the Hall of Fame is Bioware, who released a still-good native port of Neverwinter Nights back in 2003.

Where can I find the CD Key? I remember it popping up, but I thinking I didn't need it I opted for it not to be shown again.
Edit: Nevermind. If you highlight Witcher 2 in your library in detailed view you'll see a link on the right for the CD key :D

Cool! the only problem is that it is one file, i wish they cut it into multiple files. Luckily I was finally able to build lgogdownloader a few weeks ago! ...now to wait for it to finish...

Apparently the game needs to be installed (or downloading/installing) for the key to be available.
GOG provides instructions and a form at http://thewitcher.com/backup/ to request a "replacement" key if you cannot do this for some reason. Running Linux exclusively (and refusing to install Steam on wine) was good enough and I got mine a couple of days after submitting a request. You need to grab a screenshot to prove you've actually bought the game and that your email address matches the Steam account. Just follow the instructions.

For me it goes much, much better than wine. There is one part of the game involving fire arrows which always used to slow to single digit fps for some reason, but goes nicely with the linux version. The performance is now quiet good for me, but I have an nvidia gpu. But as people will tell you here, YMMV.
