This War Of Mine from Anomaly developers 11bit has been confirmed to be on Linux from the launch. Good news everyone!

The odd thing is Linux is still absent from being listed on their store, but the word from them is this:
QuoteThe game will support Linux on the day of premiere.

Source - RootGamer

This is good as we spoke to them in March and they weren't too sure, but they were aiming for a Day 1 release, so another more recent confirmation is certainly a good sign.

If you didn't see we also did an interview with them a month later to get a little more information out of them.

They haven't settled on a release date yet, but when we know you will be sure to see it on here.

Official About
This War of Mine is the first game that lets you experience war not as a soldier, but as a group of civilians in a besieged city, struggling with a constant threat of disease, starvation and death, either from hardship, a sniper's bullet or at the hands of bandits. Do whatever it takes to survive - without destroying your souls, if possible.

The pace of the game is imposed by the day and night cycle. During the day snipers outside stop you from leaving your refuge, so you need to focus on maintaining your hideout: crafting, trading and taking care of survivors. At night, take one of your civilians on a mission to scavenge through a set of unique locations for items that will help you stay alive. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

That looks an awful lot like Rebuild. Interesting. Hopefully it's got more replayability in it.

This game would be a day one purchase for me. Unfortunately, 11 Bit Studios' games almost always require Steam. So I hope that this game will make it eventually into a Humble Indie Bundle because it sure looks very interesting!

Quoting: PlintslchoUnfortunately, 11 Bit Studios' games almost always require Steam.

All their games are available DRM-Free in Games Republic. Some of them are also available in the Humble Store and GOG. Be careful with the Humble Store though, it has a warning:
Please note: Anomaly 2 for Android is provided DRM-free. Anomaly 2 for Windows, Mac, and Linux requires Steam to play

I have played all their games and I don't have a Steam account.

True, Anomaly and Anomaly 2 are meanwhile also available DRM-free (the latter only through Games Republic). But originally, they were only distributed through Steam.

I thought that this won't be any different with This War of Mine but just saw that Games Republic is offering the game also DRM-free. Games Republic is not an option for me as it requires PayPal. But maybe the game will also be distributed (for Linux) through GOG.com. That would be splendid.

I heard about this game yesterday and am interested in it. I enjoyed the Anomaly games and am happy they are making a Linux version. Hopefully they have a DRM free version as well, Anomaly 2 didn't.

Anomaly was noted for an original game mechanic, turning tower defense on its head. This may or may not be a new mechanic; the scenario goes back a way.

It appeared on Steamdb today.
