Torment: Tides of Numenera is another game heading to Linux from inXile entertainment that was funded on Kickstarter. They have released a new video to show off just how amazing it looks.

I'm going to be honest here and say that I wasn't remotely interested before, but that video has pretty much sold this one for me. The game is heading to Linux as confirmed by their previous Kickstarter.

You can still pledge by grabbing a copy from their official website at a minimum of $30. The price will rise when they stop their crowdfunding.

They have hit in total over $4.6M and it's now pretty easy to see why.

Official About
Thanks to its more than 80,000 backers, Torment: Tides of Numenera continues the thematic legacy of the critically acclaimed Planescape: Torment. Set in Monte Cook's tabletop role-playing world, Numenera, the newest Torment asks: What does one life matter? We're creating a rich experience that explores deep, personal themes.

The Setting
Numenera's Ninth World is a fantastic vision of a world in which hyper-advanced civilizations have risen and fallen and left their inventions behind. Their achievements became part of the accumulated detritus of eons… and now this assortment of ancient power is there for the taking. The humans of the Ninth World take and use what they can. They call these artefacts the numenera.

What did you think to the video? Fantastic that we are getting such an RPG on Linux. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

They're also going for another stretch goal, an area called "The Gullet", if they reach $4.75m by October 16th: http://tormentrpg.tumblr.com/post/97763206275/updated-our-journal-32-a-new-look

Really, this video looks, sounds and feels so damn much like Planescape: Torment, I can't contain myself.

Hmh, I don't dig the setting and presentation. Looks all too surreal to me.

Hmm... This reminds me of Septerra Core.

Quoting: GuestLooks nice for what it is, but I’m not interested. I’d rather play a first person action-RPG.
Totally different here. I find action RPGs so boring :D

Have you played Planescape Torment or any of the Original Infinity Engine games (like Icewind Dale or Baldur's Gate)? If you're not interested in the CRPG genre, then you probably won't like this game.

I already pledged for Torment and Pillars of Eternity a year ago, so I don't need to tell anybody how much of a Obsidian/Black Isle/Inxile fanboy I am.

I suppose my nickname in the quotation was by mistake :)

I believe liam is not going to like Torment. We had a discussion few months ago where he wanted to persuade me that every game is RPG, when I had expresses my distaste for hack n slash action RPGs. So I'm sure that true RPGs, as I call the CRPGs, are not his cup of tea ;)

Yeah, this will be a story-heavy CRPG, where the combat will be mostly optional. More focus on atmosphere, story and the question "What does one life matter?". And lots of reading. :)

It's going to be a great RPG in the spirit of Planescape Torment. If you've never played it, pick up the original on GOG.

So this will not be "diablo like"? I don't mind reading and a good story, but I do enjoy plowing through hordes of minions though. The developers also said they don't have any plans for multiplayer, so no co-op. The co-op is half of the fun of a game such as diablo for me.
