Untold Universe is a space voxel sandbox MMORPG. Explore, shape, colonize and conquer a huge and uncharted universe! It sounds interesting, but is it worth a look?

The alpha is currently only offering .deb files, so if you do pledge be warned you will need to do some minor trickery to get it out of the .deb file if you aren't using something like Ubuntu or Mint.

I have tested the Alpha and it's mildly interesting if a little bland right now. It has a small tutorial to tell you the very basics without being very interesting.

It gets you to build a Mine, turn it on and then moves onto something else. No word on what it mines or how to get access to what it mines, so it felt a bit pointless other than "yay I built a mine".

At one point it told me to go and build a spaceship, but then didn't tell me any more. I am guessing it was supposed to give me more information and just stopped, so again buggy. I built something resembling a ship with a command console, power thing and an engine, but I could figure out how to get anything to work, so I was left pretty underwhelmed.
I then realised there was a "command console" by the shipyard, so I tried it and the option to build one was there, but it wouldn't let me build as apparently there was one there already and there wasn't. Not very useful

It's bound to be a little bit buggy of course being an early alpha, and it won't always allow you to connect. Sometimes I can connect with a bit of luck to progress a bit further, so they need to work on the connection and login system a fair bit.

If they fix up the tutorial to make it more interesting, and actually get it to tell you what to do with spaceships it would have probably gotten a better first impression from me.

It's like a more expanded version of Minecraft (complete with a similar graphical style) were you build spaceships and land on other planet types. Sort of like a 3D version of Starbound then with no option of a single player.

At release it will be free to play with everyone able to play for as long as they want, but with premium accounts that allow you to unlock "advanced features". Not very convinced of that right now myself, but make of it what you will.

They want a big $200,000 to complete the game, so you better dig deep in that wallet if you like the look of it.

Official About

Untold Universe is a single-shard MMO which means that everyone from all around the world will play in the same universe. The world is made of multiple planets which you will be able to jump on with your spaceship, directly interacting with people on the ground or orbiting around it. Still, you will be able to trade, discuss, exchange and plan with anyone even if he is not in the same planet-space as yours.

I personally get turned off by this being a MMO. I usually like to play these types of games either alone or with a group of friends (otherwise you sometimes get griefers). I mean indie devs have never really been good at having a big multiplayer communities for their multiplayer only games. So unless they change their focus from MMO to single/multiplayer I can't say I'm too interested in this.

On a side note I'm surprised I haven't seen an article showing that a free early access game on steam called Robocraft has just added Linux support.

Waiting for their servers to get sorted, tried yesterday and it was pretty much impossible to get into a game.

I've tried few weeks ago.

It worked fine and directly on my Debian.

Tutorial explained me how to build my first mine et my first space ship.

I've move into another planet quite easily.

Not really tested exploration yet.

Me too! I wonder how they gonna handle that problem.

Then you might give StarMade http://star-made.org/ a try. It has single-/multiplayer including dedicated servers already :)
