Update: It should now be playable for all, and it is a native port.
Update 2: Virtual Programming have confirmed to GamingOnLinux in an email they did not do the port, so to settle this, it is not using eON.
We honestly have no idea who has done this port, as GamingOnLinux spoke to Techland previously who confirmed they are not doing the port and told us to speak to Deep Silver who never answer our emails or tweets.

Dead Island is the latest zombie game to grace Linux with its presence and helps build up our backlog of games.
About
Terror. Violence. Madness. Bedlam. A holiday paradise gone mad. A tropical island turns into total chaos after a mysterious zombie outbreak. Cut off from the rest of the world, the player’s only chance to survive is to fight to the death and find a way to escape from the island.
Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to four players in co-op mode.
It seems it is not available for everyone just yet, so you may get a missing executable error:
Thanks, johndrinkwater on reddit.
It is currently on sale too, so it's possibly it was supposed to be sorted ready for the sale.
Editor Note: We do advise holding off until the official announcement to avoid waiting and to be sure you count as a Linux sale.

QuoteFor most wondering why they still get missing executable: it is waiting for Techland to include the Linux files in all the various packages they have sold over the years.
If you bought https://store.steampowered.com/sub/14664/ or https://store.steampowered.com/sub/15205/ you can download it.

When you mean "hours ago", it will probably have been to late for them to do anything.
As it's not even available for Mac I'd guess not, no.

I don't think it is.
I sure hope not. While they did get TW2 running pretty darn well for me @ 1920x1080. I want this to run fantastically to blast zombies @ 5760x1080! It runs 60fp @ 5760x1080 without my GPUs even breaking a sweat in winblows last I tried.
And is native.
The Xbox 360 controller works also out of the box.

BUT!! I am still willing to "pay it forward" and help out a German gamer who cannot get this without it being gifted to them. It's only $5 and I just got paid so what the hell. I will buy the GOTY edition and GIVE it to the German gamer who not only PROVES they are in fact a German Linux gamer, but also gives me the best story about why they want it. I've got some drinking to do with a couple of great friends who are getting married next weekend, but when my drunk @$$ gets home I WILL send you a copy. PROMISE! I expect to see some really good stories in my PM box when I get home ;)
ALSO, you obviously have to friend me on Steam!
So...who made the port anyway?
Considering there isn't a "porter" animation in the startup vids and the fact that it is Deep Silver I can only assume there is no "porter" and in was totally an "in house" job. If someone knows otherwise let us know. I'm only speaking on the fact that Borderland:TPS has Aspyr in the into vids on the Linux ver. and on windows they are not there.
Added you in steam. I'm in germany, I don't even see the games steam store page. It would be awesome to get it as gift!
Dude, nobody else claimed it so you now own Dead Island:GOTY (hopefully!! I did send it. I selected the avatar that matches yours here and purchased as a gift.) So let use know how it goes.
If this transaction goes through like I think, it looks like I have another copy of the normal (no DLC) version of Dead Island to give away after buying the franchise pack after all. Add me as a fiend on Steam and you may just get a free game tomorrow

I don't know what I did to deserve it but if I'm not too drunk (which is entirely possible) it looks like I have multiple copies to give away?
