Born out of the 7 Day FPS Challenge and crowd-funded on Ulule, today marks its official Linux release, after it was originally released as an alpha version for Windows last year.

The game is French developer 5 Bits Games' debut title and is published by veteran publisher Bandai Namco Games. Known for games such as the later Tekken arcade fighter games and the unforgiving Dark Souls action RPGs, this is as far as I know their first cross-platform published game on the PC.

So far there's no demo available for Linux, but my initial impression by looking at gameplay videos is that the game looks like a cross-over of Boson X and Fract OSC. The game features large environments, both puzzle and platforming challenges; all implemented in a first-person view akin to games like Portal and TRI. Of which the latter I recently wrote about.

Official About

After an endless fall through powerful magnetic storms... you awaken.

Your memory erased, you start exploring the world around you. Someone or something is pushing you higher and higher.
Suddenly, you spot the most gigantic Tower emerging from the mists. You soon understand that to get the answers to your questions... you have to climb its summit.

However, this is no easy feat. The Tower is protected by a high-tec
h security system made up of complex mechanisms, fatal lasers, and robots constantly tracking your every move.

If you are to survive, you'll need to use all your skills (jumping, double-jumping, dashing etc. ) and make good use of your SwitchGun, that can be used to enable or disable traps and robots in order to reach the top of the Tower and uncover the secrets of its origins.

The game is available from Desura and Steam:

DeadCore

Since I haven't picked it up myself I don't know how well it performs, but it is developed with Unity and I know some of you have issues with open environment games like this developed with the engine. If you decide on picking it up, make sure to report back here and let us know how it runs for you. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

A big fan of platformers, puzzle games, point-and-click adventures and niche indie games.

I run the Hidden Linux Gems group on Steam, where we highlight good indie games for Linux that we feel deserve more attention.

to those who have/are playing it what are your thoughts? It certainly seems like it might be cool.

yeah its really nice, catched my attention when it was back in alpha .4 or something. definitively worth it, especially if you enjoyed portal or such. The devs are very kind, answered my comment on the desura page right away, and people who bought it in alpha do get a steam key. dont know when, but i like those guys, support them :)
