We are currently livestreaming our public discussion of our current plans here at GOL on Twitch now that TheBoss is no longer writing for us.

The livestream is over but you can watch the VOD here:

Summary:
The general plan is going to stay the same. Article writing will focus more on community submissions with a couple of articles from the editor team per week. Liam Dawe will not participate in writing articles or managing the community but he will still stay with us and do background work, such as maintain the website software and stay in contact with developers through email. All of the Patreon funds are also going to go through him to pay for the server costs. He is also working on the new GOL website theme, which already looks good by the way.

We also discussed many practical things, such as the article submission page. We've streamlined the process of writing a user submitted article by removing the tagline and tags from the user editor. Thus users don't have to care about what to put there and what tags to use, they will be added by the editors during review process. We hope that this makes the article editor less intimidating to new users and that people can focus more on the content of their articles.

We thought about making a new show for GOL, like a podcast or a weekly livestream. Nothing has been set in stone yet but our schedules would allow us to have an up to 2 hour live segment (nearly) every Friday. The content wasn't yet discussed but it would most likely be us playing some games or rambling about what is going on in the Linux gaming world. Or both.

There was also a question of whether or not we need more emulation or Wine articles. Our current stance favours native games and articles about native games more as that is the way we want games on Linux be made. But we agreed that there isn't too much Wine or emulation content at the moment and that we could have more of that as long as it comes in reasonable quantity. We don't want to have five Wine articles per one native game article for example. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I'm a Linux gamer from Finland. I like reading, long walks on the beach, dying repeatedly in roguelikes and ripping and tearing in FPS games. I also sometimes write code and sometimes that includes hobbyist game development.

I added a summary of the biggest things we discussed in the livestream. I might have missed some smaller things but hopefully the summary gives you an idea of what was talked about and what were our opinions on those things. There's also an embedded VOD, so you can watch the whole thing on YouTube.

Thanks for the summary, Samsai.

Glad to hear that Liam is still going to be around even if only in the background, don't let the idiots push you away.

Great. Liam's strength is his ability to prod info out of developers...so if he can do this in a low profile way, that would be excellent!
