I remember the days of old when "Linux has no games!" was a common argument against using it. Now with developers flocking to put Linux versions of games up on Steam we are seeing over 700!
Steam's official count currently at the time of writing lists it at 702 games, but SteamDB however only lists 676 as actually working. SteamDB is updated manually though as people test the games, so if you see one you know that works that isn't listed as such then feel free to pop an update to them using github, instructions below:

What's this about there being games on Linux? I'm still playing quadrapassel from the Ubuntu Store.

Please stop circle-jerking!!! There is cca. 15-20 good quality ports (B2,Civ5,x-com,valve-games...) and all other is garbage, all Unity3D and C#/Mono/XNA/Flash based games are pure 5hit. Im Linux user for 10+ years and I never saw Linux community choosing quantity over quality. Where is your spine Linux users? Will you buy my biological 5hit if I stamp Tux logo and write Linux supported all over it?? Write articles about incompetent developers, poor performance and stability of ports, about games that only work on specific distribution/version-of-distribution, about no OGL4 development even if Windows version is using D3D11 etc. So there is NO 700 games, there is 20 games MAX depending on your standards, and Linux gamers obviously have lowest standard of all gamers.

I've got more than 20 good ports in my played-through-and-enjoyed-it category.

Do you realize that situation never had anything to do with the reality?
I still remember these critical comments posted by many users about overpriced games, free Linux installers, and indie games that were constantly ignored by Windows users who just installed Linux for fun. This category of users never planned to buy any games for Linux, even if it cost them a couple of dollars.
I think that the most of the Linux gamers preferred to play games published for their platform. They, usually, had to purchase classical or indie games, because some of the triple-A title games were frequently cancelled by producers or date of publication was delayed by the companies.
You're just typical user of Windows, who installed Linux, and you probably didn't have a chance to play in games for Linux for the longer period of the time.
I'm not the biggest fan of producers who use C#/Mono/XNA/Flash/Wine to create games for Linux. On the other hand, I remember a time when people had three games for Linux that weren't made by the indie developers during the year. You can't say that indie games are garbage because that isn't the truth, and these people drew attention of the big companies such as Valve.
I think that many people noticed positive changes about the Linux game market. I don't to have be in a situation when I could read news about one or three new indie games in a week. I don't have to worry if there will be a chance for one or two popular games at the end of the year. This is the situation from the past.
However, I have to admit that I had a chance to play in many great games. I never thought that I will be in a situation when I can choose from such a wide range of games for Linux. I think that you should stop moan about the current situation, and I recommend you to spend more time on the playing games for Linux because you have a huge choice right now. I believe that Linux will be a significant platform for gamers in the future.
Unfortunately, I can't say anything about "Windows standards" because I don't care about this operating system. From my perspective, Linux is my favorite platform for games, and I'm happy that every day I have an ever-increasing number of games that I can play on it.

I have 104 games in my steam library, i playedmost of them. i have only 16 of them pemanently installed due to the size of my ssd. i never had any trouble having running those games. the only game i remembr having trouble with was trine2 (the dual monitor issue). for the rest its a care free expierience.
I see no reason to go on a rant about bad ports, cuz i haven't experienced them first hand.

WOW a4360825, I know I can be a bit b*tchy/opinionated at times but you take the cake brother. I get what you are saying, as I don't play too many "indie games" myself, but there are many who really enjoy them. There is a lot of crap that gets passed by steams greenlight for sure.. but your #'s are a bit off. I also have my issues with Unity games, but it's getting better. From my understanding it's "cheap" and easy to use and almost does all the cross platform stuff for you, so it's what makes a lot of sense for many smaller devs. I think that UE4 is going to change that when it's really linux ready, so only time will tell.

So I've listed 37 and I consider all of them to be good games, otherwise why would I have bought them? And I am a gamer who tends to stick to pretty big titles. And ALL of the ones I currently have installed I play on 3 monitors @ 5760x1080 with the exception of DOTA2, because it's purposefully setup in a way to make using multi monitors unbearable because it would unbalance the game, but it does technically work. If I have learned one thing since switching to linux as my main gaming platform it's that there ARE good games out there that have near AAA caliber that just don't have the media/press the big players have. I now own quite a few that I would probably had never given the time of day until I really went looking for linux games.
PLUS, I have about another 170 games from steam and Origin that are not linux native that I have been going through and testing. I have found that a vast majority of them play just fine with wine, and those too I play using all 3 monitors. So of my over 200 owned game I'm fairly confident in saying that at least 85% of those are completely playable in linux either natively or via wine. It's mainly the DX10/11 only games and a few dx9 games that just refuse to work in wine. It really is a good time to be a linux gamer bro, open your eyes a bit.
EDIT* Off topic, but did anyone else notice that there is now a Mac depot for Metro:LL Redux? I was under the impression that wasn't happening

I know English is not the easiest language to everyone. But could people please learn how to use paragraphs and also try to follow common good practices when writing comments, such as proof reading and trying to keep it short (as much info in as little text as possible).
This really is not something that is exclusive to English, but generally is a rule in most/all? languages of the world. I especially know this can be hard when some jerk unintelligent jerk starts ranting. So, no offence meant, just pointing it out.
Not pointing to anyone specific. Just thought I would mention it, in case some might be reminded by it. You will only need to look at Liam's comments to find a great example.

700, huh. By the time they release Steam Machines they'll be able to talk about a 1000-game library, which may not be huge by Windows PC standards, but certainly blows most new-release consoles out of the water.

I would like to start with saying when I started writing I did not notice there was a second page (I often miss this for some reason/topic for new design?). In fact, even now I would not include yours, it was formatted well enough. If something needs to be long, so be it.
I think you would find we have much in common when it comes to long posts LOL. I'm just saying one should at least try (again not you, or even most).
I do partly agree with you on leaving a target. Unfortunately I tend to at least partly mess up my own comments thus kind of hurting myself in the same way. But I guess I will learn with time :)

Yea, I didn't think you were talking about me, our posts basically went up at the same time so you couldn't have read mine really. I was just explaining myself for the hell of it. I was mainly goofing with/at you as I try not to let things I have no control over bother me.. its just not worth the effort most of the time, and I don't understand why others do. Which is why I find grammar nazis funny. Not saying you are one, you were not a total douche in your post like many who get all bent out of shape over "your" and "you're" for example, but those people are out there. It's the internet, it's filled with the under educated, idiots and trolls. that's not going to change and wasting any time of your life with these types of things is a waste of energy IMO. Put that energy towards getting mad the next time a dev basically screws us penguins again (even if only temporarily).. had enough of those this past month.

I really only started to look at playing games in linux earlier this year and man am I glad I did. I really think I can count the times i've booted my win 8.1 install this year on 1 hand (might be 2). I have more native games installed in linux than I have native win games installed in win. I've moved as many win games from windows and into wine on linux as it allows. For many there really is no need for windows anymore. The only reason I still have it is that I like to play Battlefield and a few other games that are DX11.
I have a pretty beefy gaming rig that I've spent more money than I care to admit on in order to play games in all of their glorious MAX settings. If I can do that on linux I'm on it. The list of games I have that require windows seems to shrink all the time. It really is a great time if linux is your OS of choice and you're a gamer.
The other half, like you already stated are not native English speakers/writers, so it's not really their fault. I can't say that I participate in any non English forums, so I applaud them for trying to bring something to the conversation the best they can.

I'm a non-native English speaker, but I try to treat these types of remarks seriously. I made some small changes in my previous comment.
I have to admit that sometimes I can't stand opinions that are formulated in a very critical way about games for Linux.

I have 301 linux games and 155 installed currently. I would say I have 50ish shitters the rest I am very happy with. Out of that 50 though I would say only 10-15 are buggy, the rest I just don't like. So in genereal the ports we are getting are pretty sweet. Although Aspyr have taken it to a whole new level.
