UPDATE: It seems this change is not yet completed for Linux.

The developers behind the hit survival game Rust have been hard at work on their next-generation branch and it is now the default. It brings a lot of changes with it.

The original Rust hasn't actually been updated in 6 months, so if you're still playing Rust on their "Legacy" branch it's time to move on don't you think? Originally they stated they wouldn't make the experimental builds default until they matched the legacy branch, so with this change they are confident players will still love it.

The new build updates a lot of things like graphics, newer version of Unity and much much more. So much infact it would be insane to list it all in one post, but you can see what they have been adding on the official blog in their weekly update posts.

It's the same problem I have with all survival games. What the hell do I do? Oh look a another player, bang, dead.

If you're new to Rust or new to the experimental branch then you can check out some great getting started guides right here.

If you just want to throw some money at a new game, then check out Rust on Steam. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Ah I guess it wasn't actually pushed out until just now as I just got an update on Steam.

Edit > Mine keeps reverting, it's all over the place right now.

Surpassed 200hours on it just using linux version. Maybe I will give it a try again, but only after platinum Risen 1!

I wonder when, I haven't been able to play either the legacy (due to the mouse issue), nor the experimental (keep spawning up in the sky, fall and then splat dead, every time I spawn.) versions of rust.

hopefully it's soon.

I put about 40 hours into the legacy version but stopped playing it a few months ago, so I was looking forward to trying this. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to want to start for me now, just get a black screen. Will try and figure about what's happening when I have a bit more time this weekend.

I played legacy in linux for over 80 hours. It worked fine for me.
The new one works fine aswell, but havn't played much at all thanks to borderlands 2.
It does look alot better so far though.

The new version doesn't even load for me. I'm sat listening to birds chirping/cawing while looking at a frozen screen where I've clicked "Join Server". :(
