We are not done yet

We are here once again, aren't we? TheBoss has announced his resignation from GamingOnLinux.com and it's once again up to us to figure out where to go from here. The past few months have been quite bumpy and obviously this is going to throw some wrenches into our gears.

However, it's not all doom and gloom. Liam leaving us is a massive hit and it's going to take a lot of doing to get back on track once again but I'm not ready to throw in the towel. I believe GOL is an important resource to Linux gamers both old and new and also game developers who want to create Linux ports and interact with the Linux community. We've been an up-to-date news website and in addition to just reporting new releases we have also highlighted issues in Linux ports and Linux gaming in general and helped to fix those issues, even if by a little bit. The IRC and our forums have seen all kinds of people wanting help with problems they've encountered or simply asking for someone to play some awesome games with.

In a nutshell: GOL has become something bigger and better many of us probably expected. To me it's simply too important to simply call “GG” and give up. Luckily we already have a battle plan to get through this but it requires everyone's efforts.

We are going to turn GOL into a community-oriented website. This means that we are going to rely more on you, the community. Liam has put a lot more effort into this website than any single one of us can and thus it's necessary for us to work together to patch the hole that has appeared on the side of this website. If you find a topic you want to write an article about or a game release we haven't reported, please do familiarize yourself with the “Submit Article” button on the sidebar. Naturally you won't go unrewarded. If you write enough good quality articles you will be given a rank of Contributing Editor and eventually you will be promoted to full Editor status. These ranks give you all of the privileges of GOL Supporters free of charge. Most of the internal communication is going to be handled through the IRC channel, so head there if you want to ask questions or need help with submitting articles. Or if you simply want to chat, it's the right place for that too.

I'm going to stay loyal to this website and continue writing articles (mainly the GOL Casts), moderate the forums/comments and try to keep us organized on the IRC to the best of my ability. School takes up a lot of my free time though, so you can't expect me to publish more than one or two articles of my own per week. What I can do is check and publish user submitted articles on the queue which I will try to monitor daily.

I'm going to hold a livestream on Friday at 5 PM UTC at http://www.twitch.tv/gamingonlinux where you can join in on the discussion and hopefully we can make some sense out of this situation. With your help I'm sure we can pull through but some changes are inevitable. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I'm a Linux gamer from Finland. I like reading, long walks on the beach, dying repeatedly in roguelikes and ripping and tearing in FPS games. I also sometimes write code and sometimes that includes hobbyist game development.

Quoting: HamishWell, I just checked over and approved four submitted articles, which seems like a good start so far.

Was wondering who that was :)

I take it you do not get to see messages on the Admin CP as just a Contributing Editor then. Personally I would be very much in favour of making you a full Editor, if for nothing else to give you total control over your GoL World Tour articles.

That's right, I was looking for that earlier but thought the feature wasn't implemented or something. Guess it was just a privileges thing.

We can talk about it on Friday with Samsai if you're going to be on. There's also the GOL survey, which unless someone else decides to continue, I'll also take care of... Then it would also make sense if I did the Steam survey results along side it. I don't know, I'll try and be there on Friday and get things organised.

Never give up guys! Liam needs his time off to get back into shape. It's sad what had happened but time heals some wounds and hopefully he'll be in a better shape soon.
This IS the best Linux Gaming news site on the Internet imho and the show must go on!
Hopefully I'll manage to join in on the twitch session.

WHAT THE HELL LIAM?

I don't believe it.

YOU ARE DOING an awesome Job with GOL, which made this site to the No.1 Resource for Linux Gaming!

This bunch of idiots, (fill in some more insults here) :) from LGC are nothing compared to WHAT YOU HAVE CREATED with GOL. They are just jealous about you, as YOU ARE DOING A WAY BETTER JOB then they are.

Don't let this *CENSORED* win.

I can promise you one thing. If you go from board now, then you will regret it for the rest of your life. Hope to see you soon after processing what has happened. But don't give up yet!

@Samsai and others: Thanks for efforts to keep GOL alive :). I only wish I had more time to contribute.

I understand it may be difficult to deal with "trolls" and general internet hate speech. I've had to deal with a great amount of it in the past to be honest. I'm not defending anyone here, nor am I saying you should limit your freedom of speech, but obviously talking about some subject like Lennart will bring up a lot of bad attention towards you. I don't think there's anything wrong with being controversial if you have a good point (not saying my own controversy was particularly a good point), but acknowledging the people who harass you online will only give them more power. The best way to deal with "trolls" is to ignore them, pure and simple. I also feel this type of acknowledgement and blame can be harmful as well. And no, this does NOT mean you should ignore constructive criticism, people have labeled this as "trolling" before and it's rather sad.

I think I'm going to remove my subscription from LGC. Besides not watching them in a while, if they're going to start this type of drama and bullshit for no good reason, then I really don't care to be a part of it. I hope GoL doesn't start becoming more drama infested too...

Just a last thing I wonder, why were comments disabled on Liam's post? Or was that just my end?

Hi guys,

Very sad to hear that Liam quit just because of those massive fckwads from LGC.

GOL is the best resource for Linux games without any doubt. Only website i followed regularly for news on Linux games. Disappointing to know that Liam is leaving.

Hope you can surpass this and still continue updating us with great articles and news.

As for that human trash called Pedro Mateus he works [details removed by moderator]. I'm ashamed he is from the same country as me.

Not really my style but i think this asshole deserves some payback.

His employer should know what kind of person they have in their ranks. I would never hire a person like this.

i have been watching LGC since 2012 and its a real shame that these people represent us, this site is very very decent compared to what LGC puts out there.

Trolls they are, game critics they are not
