It has been a bumpy ride, and that's putting it nicely, but 7 Days To Die is finally on Linux for us to enjoy some zombie smashing.

From the developers ignoring our requests of information, to community moderators temporarily banning me from the forums with a message of "stink on this" and many other annoyances. It is just good to see them finally deliver on the promise of a Linux version.

Originally the Kickstarter listed the Linux version (along with Mac) to be available around two months after the Windows version; that was a very long two months!

The game does seem to work reasonably well though, and even works on an Intel HD4000 if you turn the settings down quite a bit.

About the game

Building on survivalist and horror themes, players in 7 Days to Die can scavenge the abandoned cities of the build-able and destructible voxel world for supplies or explore the wilderness to gather raw materials to build their own tools, weapons, traps, fortifications and shelters. In coming updates these features will be expanded upon with even more depth and a wider variety of choices to survive the increasing dangers of the world. Play alone or with friends, run your own server or join others.

7 Days to Die development was launched following a successful Kickstarter campaign in August 2013, demonstrating the initial prototype. Joining us in early access now will help support the cause and ensure continued expansion of the development team, their efforts and the planning and addition of even more features and depth eagerly awaited by fans.

Check out 7 Days To Die on Steam, or 7 Days To Die on Humble Store where it is on sale.

Quoting: edqeGreat to have yet another game for Linux.

I personally hope that people who doesn't understand the risks of using development version of products / Early Access would stay away from Early Access games. It is tiring to read whining and complaining if and when development version doesn't work properly.
BS. 7dtd was supposed to be released for linux ~year ago and there were nothing said about early access. They joined it long after kickstarter and basicaly took dump on heads of their suppporters.

To me it looks like the project is not done yet and they are still working on it (alpha stage). Did they give a strict deadline for Linux version or did they just hoped they would be able to make it ready in some certain time frame?

Sometimes Kickstarter and Early Access games fails and all the supporters gets is unfinished alpha product. People who doesn't understand that software projects may fail should wait the final product before buying.

The main issue isn't exactly how long it took, but their terrible communication to customers waiting.

I, like others, supported them on Kickstarter, and their lack of communication to Linux supporters was disturbing. It got to the point were they started locking threads about Linux, and banning me with a highly unprofessional message of "stink on this".

Then we had a developer claiming he was working on it in his "spare time", so it wasn't even a remote priority for "The Fun Pimps".

We were given a couple conflicting reasons for the Linux build not being out, and they constantly kept is in the dark.

However, it's now out. So we can hopefully put it behind us.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not even out for Windows yet? There's not a single review on either gamerankings nor metacritic, and it's only on "Early Access" on Steam.

I mean, sure, so they promised to be done with the game a year ago (or whatever) but you guys make it sound like it's just the Linux version we talk about here, when in fact no version for any platform is properly released yet.

"released", well... we can argue about the term itself, if you want. But I guess it was pretty obvious "released" meant "available natively" here ;)

Stop arguing about crappy GPL3 License and referring to the past about not releasing etc not happy bla bla bla bla ........

Why most of you are not happy about this? :><:

At least they have keep their promise and released a native Linux than abandon the whole project completely.

Now forget the past and start playing the game and dont forget to say a big thanks to the developers...

I have play it a bit today , punch some walkers , got raped by some unleashed dogs... and night is scary!

And it plays very well on Linux ^_^

The developers attitude over the past year has left too sour a taste in my mouth for me to be "happy" that this is out. I'm relieved that, as a backer, we have something to show for the money we risked 15 months ago. That's about it. That's as good as it gets for me so far.

I'm installing it now though. You never know...

Right! I wonder where Contagion went??

All right, I must confess that I bought it today... what can I say? I'm a "zombie" addicted

Now, my impressions are, the game seems fun with multiplayer, but its performance is really bad, I really hope they fix this before the definitive release.
HadBabits Nov 24, 2014
Honestly, I never thought this game looked very interesting; survival/zombie/crafting is nice and all, but we've had that since Minecraft. I'd rather support a more pleasant developer :P

I am happy about the release, while I was (and am) terribly frustrated with the lack of communication regarding issues like this. Not only by the fun pimps but in general.

I for one, backed this project because they promised Linux support. The lack of communication afterwards was rather disturbing and actually is one more reason in my book to not support early access titles, because just like you said:

Please, people, whatever you do, NEVER forget the past! That's one of the major reason this world (even apart from video games ;)) is as shitty as it is for most of the people.

Don't hold a grudge, but neither forget!

Quoting: scaineRight! I wonder where Contagion went??

They are facing difficulties with the Source Engine. You can read it up in the steam forums, if you search for "Linux".

I've had some discussions with them, but in contrary to the fun pimps they keep you updated and want to sort this out (at least they say so). They want to deliver what they promised and don't ban people for politely asked questions about the status.

But ya, another point for "Sered wont support early access again, unless it's natively available on Linux at the point when he spends his money." (Yes, I like to talk in the 3rd person of myself ;))
