Legend Of Grimrock 2 On Linux Is Uncertain

I have been really looking forward to playing Legend of Grimrock 2 soon. Unfortunately, the game is not available for Linux yet, and as it seems it's not certain whether we will see it on Linux at all. I have emailed the developers asking about Linux availability, and this is the response I got:

Unfortunately we can't promise a linux port at this moment.


It's up to you to deduce how likely we are to see a Linux version in the future, but it certainly won't be soon.

Maybe, if there's a strong support under this article, I can send a link back to them and it might convince them a bit more that the demand is here. Or maybe you have better ideas. Anyway, this is really bad news for dungeon crawling fans. :( Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I actually went to buy this game a few weeks ago, but noticed a lack of penguin. I looked into it and decided to wait and see. Yup, that was a good call. Well, if they don't want my money that's a shame but there isn't anything I can do about it.

I was planning on buying two copies at full price when a native version was released because I really liked the first instalment. During the development they said they would consider porting after the release. If they are still undecided/uncertain even after the game had its release...then the only thing I can say is this; They just went down a notch on my (Linux) reputation scale. "No Tux, no bux".

I really enjoyed the first LoG. It would be very disappointing if the sequel never made it to our OS.

Ron Gilbert (creator of Maniac Mansion and co-creator of Monkey Island) has just announced a campaign on Kickstarter. Thimbleweed Park will be available on Linux! And I have absolutely no doubt that this will get funded! ^_^

i never liked click and point games, i was looking forward to LoG 2, as i said this is the worst news this month.very dissapointing

I for one would appreciate a Linux version. Would most certainly speed up my purchase of LOG 2 :)

That's great indeed, but what Linux would need are games like:
GTA V
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Far Cry 4
+ other big releases huge amount of gamers cares about.

Without big titles like those Steam Machines are going to compete against OUYA.

I would very much like to see LoG 2 on Linux and of course *all* possible games on Linux. LoG 1 was okeish but to me it felt dungeon crawler for casual gamers. Especially if one had experience with dungeon crawlers from 80s/90s.

Exactly. Earlier SteamOS got client updates daily and OS updates at least once in month. Nowadays no updates at all.

SteamOS is far from ready at least on my setup. Daily crashes, stuttering (Big Picture included), performance problems, etc. It is hard to see that final version would be only some months away.

Lack of SteamOS updates and Valve being silent is worrying. Valve has not yet gave any reasons for gamers to wait Steam Machines. DX12 is coming which makes situation even worse.

I discovered the Legend of Grimrock quite recently, and I liked it, it reminded me of old games like Might & Magic and Eye of the Beholder. I haven't played it yet, but I am going to.

LoG2 looks promising, but it's sad that developers decided to drop Linux platform. I'm not going to buy it, until they make Linux version. Even if it runs through wine.

Update: Bought the first game, having great time playing it ;) I hope that there will be Linux version of LoG2 eventually.
