Pillars of Eternity, the massive RPG to come from Obsidian Entertainment & Paradox Interactive is set to release early next year, and it's now up for pre-order with Linux support.
Note: We never recommend pre-ordering to prevent being let down by last minute delays, which happen a lot.
It's another game we have Kickstarter funding to thank for, as it raised a massive $3.9 Million dollars on it. I don't personally fund anything now, but I am grateful for those who are willing to risk it so that the rest of us get some great games.
It really does look fantastic, and it's not surprising it's being called "the next great PC RPG" by a number of places.

Although often buggy, Obsidian is very good at making games and I think they'll get it right with this one. Luckily the preorder discount is till 24th Nov, I've got enough time to decide between this or save money for my new rig but I'm definitely buying this.

It's a Unity game. So I'll most definitely wait for several Linux reviews before touching this one with a ten foot pole.

This is the game I am waiting for since early 2013. But I will not pre-order.
I'll wait for the official release and, maybe with a little luck, it will come with a Steam sale discount.
What I like it's the fact that they never had any doubts about the Linux version. They never played with that aspect and announced it early in the development.
It's my kind of game and it looks awesome!

as linux was a quickly reached stretchgoal I decided to back the project on kickstarter.
can't wait to finally play it.
I'm just afraid that too many epic rpgs will be released for linux at the same time
and I don't know which to play first :}
bad luck I already finished wasteland 2 so no idea which rpg I should play during the cold winter days, as all the games I'm waiting for seem to be released in q1/15.

Fallout 3 looks great but it's absolutely not in the same category.
Pillars of Eternity is the evolution of games like Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights and Icewind Dale.
Of all my experiences as a gamer, this is the kind of stuff that gets me dependent. You'll need a crowbar to get me off my pc screen! Probably because, in my youth, I was an AD&D Second Edition hardcore player (just gave you a hint about my age). :)
This is what's great in the gaming offerings... There's plenty of choices for all kind of players. And now, we have that many choices even on Linux!

Very excited for this game. I've watched many of the development videos and have been consistently impressed with how professional the team is and how transparent the process is. I kickstarted the game based on the track record of the team, and I'm not at all disappointed by their progress. A few years ago, we would have *killed* to have such a high quality game hit Linux!

Sorry you are right. The way I wrote it, it's like if we had the same choices than on other platforms and it's not true and it's not what I meant either. Should have re-read myself.
What I meant it's that with 786 games on Steam only... we are beginning to have an interresting offering. Could have more AAA titles (I hope it's a matter of time)but in comparison with the situation 3 years ago, when we could barely play on Linux whithout wine, It's much better now.

i am sooooo excited about this one!!!!! i can't wait to play it, i loved baldurs gate 1 and 2 so i'm gonna lose a lot of hours in this game :)

Should have re-read myself.No worries ;)… What I meant is: there is not a single (good, native, not top-down) racing game on Linux. Very few (playable, fun) solo FPS’s. The only western 3D action RPG is pathetic and unplayable. Very few and no good (Starcraft-quality) RTS.
Yeah racing is what's really missing right now. Hey?! What about Super Tux Cart? :)

In fact, I don't look to what's out on Windows. I just play the games that are offered to me on Linux and I'm quite happy with what's being offered.
I have 41 games, that I have played, in my librairie and 44 more in my Wishlist that I want to play.
Ive had a lot of fun playing The Witcher 2 and look forward to The Witcher 3. Right now, I really enjoy XCom: Ennemy Unknown. Played through Metro Last Light and the Half Life series and enjoyed them. And today, I got this news about Pillars of Eternity and Chivalry Medieval Warfare and these are 2 games that I will enjoy too. What else? Sanctum 2 and Natural Selection 2 that I had fun with. I also keep an eye on Interstellar Marines and Wasteland 2 and I hope to see Homefront 2 and Metro 2033 appear in the Steam store in a near future.
Forgot to mention Portal and Portal II.
Oh! War Thunder.

I agree with you on racing games, because besides race the sun and flatout, there isn't much else. However, I disagree with you on everything else. Most of the FPSs on my steam library I play as single player only (I'm not including puzzlers like Portal). As for 3D action RPGs, the Witcher 2 runs well for me, and there are a few other 3D actions RPGs on Linux (Borderlands, Planet Explorers, Mount and Blade, Dungeon Defenders, etc). As for very few RTS games, it's the same on Windows really. Nearly most Strategy games that come out are turn based. I'm a big RTS fan, I can tell you that there has barely been in any decent RTS games that came out in the past 4 years.

I already have a pre ordered copy thanks to donating to the project 2 years ago. I had no choice since Obsidian Etertainment is my favorite developer of all time who creates games from my favorite genre of all time (Western RPGs). :D

IMHO, there is such a wide variety of games for Linux, there is, by now, something to suit just about every type of gamer. Yes, there will always be games for Windows that cannot run in wine, but I'm not interested in a lot of them, when I can play CIV V, EU IV, X-COM, The Witcher 2, Borderlands 2, Dominions 4,

Little Racers STREET is an excellent racing game, loads of fun.
Pillars of Eternity looks great. I hope it lives up to expectations...and yeah...hope Unity does too!

FYI this game is no more in early access. It's been officially released a couple of weeks ago and I think, but I may be wrong, that they added a solo campaign of some sort.
Edit:
"Epic Single-Player - Galactic War is a twist on traditional real-time strategy campaigns that has players battling across a dynamic galaxy filled with procedurally-generated content. Every playthrough is different. Annihilation is final."
Found that on Steam.
