Feral Interactive are being sneaky, as they have given a little hint towards their next game, and it's quite obvious it's for Linux.

It's time to get excited folks. Feral Interactive ported XCOM: Enemy Unknown to Linux not too long ago, so we are all eager to see what they have up next. Luckily, we may not have to wait for long at all.

Considering the excellent job they did with XCOM they have already proven themselves to me.

The clue is this picture:

Along with "(Clue: genus and species)".

Anyone want to try figuring out what game they are talking about? Looks like a pretty big nod to us for the fact of it being a penguin.

Source: tumblr article and their twitter.

For those that somehow missed it, we interviewed Feral Interactive back in June, so be sure to give that a read. In that interview Edwin did say this about future Linux ports:

QuoteThat's the plan! Although I can't give you any clues about what's next in line, I can say that the coming year should be a good one for Linux gamers!

Oh Feral, you sneaky developers! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I would need to change my pants if that was the case. It would also be an instant buy.

Apparently a new clue - http://www.feralinteractive.com/en/upcoming

One of those games is the game related to the King Penguin clue.

From googling it seems the 'new' game is the one with the clue "Owner of a lonely heart" with a picture of Barrels. All the others are mentioned in the Feral forums from earlier this year (one from two years ago!).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owner_of_a_Lonely_Heart

So we have KING penguin, OWNER of a LONELY heart and BARRELS. Strangely enough, that could be a reference to the Hobbit trilogy, Thoran Oakenshield, king of the dwarves lived under the Lonely mountain and the book features the characters riding down the river in barrels. However I think that's just a coincidence.

Oh, they also stated in this latest clue that it's an upcoming Mac game, no mention of linux. So perhaps we jumped to conclusions when they posted a picture of a penguin?

Considering a Feral employee just posted something 3 pages ago, I think this game is coming to Linux.

Just to follow up to my earlier ramblings, I just noticed that there's a LEGO Hobbit game and Feral just released the LEGO Batman game. Coincidence ?

Yes, it probably is. You can find just about any answer you want in the clues given so far.

Edit: The song, "Owner of a lonely heart" has the line "The eagle in the sky" which could be another Hobbit reference if you are looking for 'Hobbit' clues.

Their facebook post contains an interesting choice of words: "We like to occasionally share treats among our various social media channels, so we invite you to join our tumblr followers in biting into a clue for a very tasty project we’re working on…"

"Tasty", "biting"? I'm completely lost ...

Ok, if this is the King Penguin - Aptenodytes (without feathers & diver according to Greek translation) Patagonicus (Patagonian), and we look at the Feral Game library of Mac Games, you will find these possibles, some have been mentioned in previous comments:

Batmans (incl. Legos) - the bat has no feathers and the penguin reference goes without saying.
Bioshocks - Big Daddy", a heavily modified humanoid in an armored diving suit
Shoguns - you could be called a King, but if the species had been Emperor Penguin, this would have been more likely

There's no mention of it being a new game though so it could be any of those from the page.

Looking at the lyrics for "owner of a lonely heart" I can't really think of anything: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/yes/ownerofalonelyheart.html

If it's one of the ones on the list (ie, one which hasn't been released for mac already) then it's neither Tomb Raider, Bioshock nor Deus Ex, which is a shame.

It could be the "pathetic earthlings" or the "starship enterprise" clue. I know nothing about Star Trek so can't really come up with anything there either.
