Looking through Steam’s holiday auction today (which has already had a bit of a bumpy start,) I noticed something which excited me and perplexed me at the same time: Airline Tycoon has been ported to Linux and somehow I didn’t notice that one of my favourite business sims of all time had been released now for over a week.
(I couldn't find a trailer, the best thing was this ridiculously long lets play without the expansions)
The “Deluxe” Airline Tycoon is the definitive game, being the original along with all the expansions - not the sequel which some of us would rather forget.
Airline Tycoon was originally released in 1998, and found its way into PC “bargain bins” of the early 2000s alongside other classics of the time like Theme Hospital and SimCity 2000. Those who played management sims of this era will know what to expect, and if you liked things like Theme Hospital then this won’t disappoint.
On the other hand, if you’re expecting amazing graphics (the system requirements state 133mhz processor) and gameplay which pushes the boundaries of the genre, then you will be disappointed. This is just classic management sim where you run an airline, choose your routes and even design planes. Simple, but amazing for the nostalgia junkie.
The “mixed” reviews show this well. Be warned: this is for a very particular demographic, but then if you are of that demographic then you will most likely love this game, that demographic being people who loved games with the suffix “tycoon” or prefix “theme”.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Yeah, I had completely forgotten about that! Seems like it is then.
Wow, really surprised that went unnoticed. That's also really awesome news! If Steam writes it like that, then almost everyone else will now too :)
FYI it's not that we didn't notice, but a lot of us are busy with other things, and we will never cover everything, as some games just don't interest us.
I think I can mention that many games that haven't been covered here from the last few weeks alone. There are ways to change that though. ;)
Lumino City has been confirmed for Linux. Unfortunately with Adobe Air, but it's better than nothing. It got an encrypted Linux depot on Steam a couple of days ago, so hopefully it won't be too long until a Tux icon appears on Steam.
