Aspyr Media have done it again! Civilization: Beyond Earth is now officially available for Linux, and we have keys to throw through the screen.

It's fantastic that it was ported as quickly as this, and the communication in public from Aspyr Media has been fantastic. Other bigger developers could learn a thing or two from Aspyr.

About the game
Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth is a new science-fiction-themed entry into the award-winning Civilization series. Set in the future, global events have destabilized the world leading to a collapse of modern society, a new world order and an uncertain future for humanity. As the human race struggles to recover, the re-developed nations focus their resources on deep space travel to chart a new beginning for mankind.

As part of an expedition sent to find a home beyond Earth, you will write the next chapter for humanity as you lead your people into a new frontier and create a new civilization in space. Explore and colonize an alien planet, research new technologies, amass mighty armies, build incredible Wonders and shape the face of your new world. As you embark on your journey you must make critical decisions. From your choice of sponsor and the make-up of your colony, to the ultimate path you choose for your civilization, every decision opens up new possibilities.

GamingOnLinux is the best source of trustworthy Linux gaming news. When I read something here, I tend to think it's based on evidence and fact rather than wild speculation, a service I have to say I appreciate.

Aspyr is doing wonderful work helping bring games to our platform with a clear focus on quality craftsmanship. We definitely need more of their kind. May their success continue.

I love Aspyr because of Borderlands. The news of Borderlands coming to us was the Linux gaming moment of 2014 for me.

Oh, and I have already purchased Civ:BE so I'm out of this draw. Again, because of Borderlands. :D I'm not really in need of another Civ type game yet (I've barely started on Civ5!), but this was a case of supporting the good AAA porters out there.

I love the fact that they are supporting Linux and are so open with the process of porting. A+ to these fine folks and A+ to GOL for being on top of all things Linux Gaming (and not resulting to cheap clickbait articles)!

Once upon a time there lived a boy. He would rush home from school, throw down his schoolbag, flick off his shoes, and sit down in front of his Amiga. Eagerly, he would wait for the disk to click into action. His face would glow with glee at the site of the words "Sid Meier's Civilization" emblazoned upon his screen.

That boy was me, and I gained a lot of knowledge and many hours of enjoyment playing that game. I have been an avid fan ever since.

I love GOL, because the Linux community reminds me of the good old Amiga community back in the day. Friendly and informative. I visit daily to see what goodies are in the works for Linux, and I thank you for providing this site.

I love Aspyr Media, because they genuinely care about providing good ports for the Linux community. This now gives me the opportunity to relive my childhood years again on my beloved Linux system. Thank you Aspyr, and may you flourish and prosper.
