Civilization: Beyond Earth has been sent to approval for the final checks on the Linux version, so it's time to prepare for just one more turn.
Speaking on their blog, Aspyr Media said this:
QuoteWe were also able to successfully implement the aforementioned patch into the Linux version just in time for launch. And the launch should be very soon. We have now submitted the Linux version of Civilization: Beyond Earth to all parties for approval! Assuming all goes well, Linux users will be colonizing new planets just in time for Christmas (possibly as soon as next week).
They mentioned both Intel and AMD were great at giving them feedback, so it's only a matter of time before they become supported as it's now playable on those chips.
Aspyr noted this will probably be their last dev-blog on it. Since the game will be out soon that's fair enough.
I would like to say thanks to our friends at Aspyr for being so open about everything. It has certainly given them one of the top spots in my "good books".
If this is enough to get you to pre-order, then be sure to do it through GameAgent. That link supports us too (full disclosure and all that).

And no mention of steam workshop support. I hope they will fix it soon.

This is one of the only times I regret having already purchased a game. I bought expecting to play this only on my Windows 'console', like Civ V before it, but now I'll be able to run it on my real machines. I'm chagrined. I do appreciate Aspyr letting me tag along with my sad Windows receipt, though. I'll watch more closely and purchase more slowly next time.

The game has received way too much criticism in my opinion, but it's like Civ 5 when it first came out and was a bit bare and sort of lacking, but with the expansions it's the best civilization to date... Thing is it's going to kind of hurt paying £30 for this, then another £45 for three expansions as they come out.

I have been enjoying the not entirely dissimilar Pandora:First Contact, another "conquer a hostile planet" game. I have noticed on its Steam forums that beta players of CIV:BE have been complaining mightily about its problems compared to Pandora. Not that this means anything, and some serious DLC will undoubtedly make it a better game, as it did to CIV V. I'll probably get it, too, although (until I get the RMAed CPU I had to send back to NewEgg:><:) I won't be able to play any of the games I already have (Borderlands 2, BioShock Infinite, Tropico 5, Maia, etc).
Therefore, I may wait a bit for CIV:BE, especially because I have Pandora.
