A little late on this, apologies. Distance the excellent looking and well reviewed survival racer is now available for anyone to try out on Steam.

The game was funded on Kickstarter with a tidy $161,981, so it is another project that is delivering on its promises. Considering how good the reviews are, it's not one to miss.

About the game
Distance is a survival racing game that combines the intense action of arcade racing with the exploration of an atmospheric world. You control a unique car that allows you to boost, jump, rotate, and even fly through a chaotic and twisted city. The world has a mysterious history, and as you explore you'll be able to uncover pieces of its past.

The roads are treacherous and unpredictable with obstacles around every corner. Instead of doing laps on a loop, you'll be trying to survive to the end in the quickest time. Since your car has several abilities, it allows you to not only drive fast on the track but also upside down and on buildings and walls! You can also fly to discover new shortcuts and paths. You'll be able to take on the roads alone, or in multiplayer with your friends!

The game is a spiritual successor to the multi-award winning game Nitronic Rush. It was widely praised for its innovative mechanics, visual style, audio design, and atmosphere.

I backed this on Kickstarter and haven't had any regrets. It's Tron meets Trackmania and you can fly. So awesome.

How similar to Trackmania (Sunrise/Nations…) is this? Can you join a multiplayer game at any time and pass through other cars… Or is it more conventional?
It's more like Trackmania with regards to collisions (which has numerous benefits, but makes some people sad).

Also how is the single-player mode? Any fun? Does it have global high-scores?
Single player is broken up into just tracks like Trackmania as well as "Adventure Mode" which has a lot more atmosphere and constructs a bit of an abstract narrative. Adventure Mode is still under development, but what's there so far is pretty interesting to me.
