Update: Metro 2033 Redux is now downloading.

Original article:

Both Metro 2033 Redux & Metro Last Light Redux now have Linux icons on Steam, but they aren't currently downloadable. Looks like someone either forgot a switch or two.

Someone actually emailed in to ask us to notify people of this horrific scam taking place. Sarcasm aside, it happens a lot, and it's due to how many switches you need to hit on the Steam control panels or something.

Steam itself is saying it's out now:

Considering they are on sale right now too, it's probably legit, but the developers forgot to make the download completely public. We will update you when we have more folks.

Ps. If it was you who said it was a scam, please take this as a joke, really! We like to make light of annoying situations.

About the games
Both FPS games have been revamped, and this time Metro 2033 is available on Linux for the first time thanks to it using a newer engine.

Looks like you need 64bit too, so yet again it's time to upgrade if you haven't. They also require OpenGL 4. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

You should also mentioned that it's OpenGL 4 only and considering it's depend at least on GL_ARB_tessellation_shader likely won't work with open source drivers.

It was said on the other title (didnt check the another one) that it doesnt work on intel because of opengl 4 requirement. On system specs recommended.

Unreal Engine 4 runs in the open source drivers, albeit without tessellation and a couple of not-so-needed effects. Essentially would end up looking almost the same as the original release, that is, if it does work. Sadly, I don't have the do$h for it right now, even with it being on sale, so I can't test that.

I think it's also worth noting that even if that's the case, it's the first time anyone can play 2033 on Linux.

Just bought it. Still no available client.

Edit:

I've been able to play it at around 9pm (North America, eastern time). Graphics looks awesome and performance are good at medium (GTX 750 ti). Advanced Physx effects makes the performance drop too much but even without that the games looks great.

Another thing I witnessed, the transitions, in general, are not has fluid has Metro Last Light original.

Ue4 have both 3.2 and 4.X render. As far as i know only 3.2 works On OS drivers.

Mmm, still "not available on your current platform" when I try to launch it from the store page.

Oh well, hopefully it becomes available before the weekend. This (2033 Redux) is something that I'll be installing and playing ASAP.

I was beginning to think I would never see the day these get "released".

It has been 8 hours since the last update.. they have to know it is not completely enabled for Linux by now.. seems someone could have went and flipped the rest of the "switches" already.

At first I got paranoid and thought it checked whether or not I was running Ubuntu or SteamOS. I hope they correct whatever error they've made; I'm looking forward to playing through the series.

Great, pre-ordered my Linux copy and it's already on sale before it has been delivered. But really it's great to (soon) have another AAA title here on Linux. :D
