If there was one major building missing from Planetary Annihilation that was promised a while ago it was the Unit Cannon, and Uber Entertainment have delivered.

The ability to literally fire units from one planet to another to smash defences and bases sounds fantastic, and it was highly needed to break down the planetary fortresses you are able to create. So, kudos to Uber for delivering.

The 'Ion Cannon (Umbrella)' unit was also updated to allow it to intercept landing pods fired from the Unit Cannon, so that just became even more important to build.

This update also included tons of Naval balance (which people have constantly asked for), and lots of other balance changes.

Not to be outdone by general game-play additions, Uber also added in the first-pass at a New Player Guide available by pressing F1 or from the Main Menu.

As you can see, this was quite a big update. See the full update post here. Judging by the comments there will be more commander variations added to the mix too.

Sadly, I still encounter the dreaded black screen bug if I enable the steam community overlay, but disabling it does make the game work perfectly. Seems it is a Valve issue to as they acknowledged it on my bug report. The Steam Beta client was supposed to fix it, but it has sadly not.

Even though I am crap at it, Planetary Annihilation is still one of the best RTS games available on Linux.

You can grab Planetary Annihilation from Steam now, and it's on sale too!

Still no tutorial though.
That's what the start of the new player guide I mentioned helps with.

I was about to ask what you meant with the "black screen bug", but since the last update my screen is just black if I start the game. It was absolutely fine before, have been playing it for over a year now (now and then) and apart from a few Shadow-Shader problems everything was pretty okayish. Not as good as I remember it from Windows, but still playable. Now it is not.

Most likely you're AMD proprietary drivers user. "--software-ui" switch would fix it.

No, I always use the open source drivers.

This is pretty weird. Game should work fine with FOSS drivers.
If you want to check why it's happen please sent me friend request on Steam. :-)

That's very kind of you, but I'll figure it out, given enough time. That's the only resource I'm missing currently :/ Apart from that, I'm a Software Engineer and use Linux for 99% of my daily work. I think I should be able to find a solution ^^

Anyway I if you find out let me know why it's happen because I'm able to pass problem to developers if it's exists. Though for me it's worked great on Intel and latest version is working fine too.

Though due to UI issues I'm always use "--software-ui".

It's always run just fine for me using nVidia.

This was a game I Kickstarted, and, boy, did they deliver. I can't think of any other RTS with this game's depth, frenetic action, and ridiculously overpowered units, which, of course, aren't overpowered by the time you need them :D .

Now, with this and Wasteland 2, the AAA Kickstarted games I'm waiting for is Pillars of Eternity and Torment:Tides of Numenera ^_^ .
