Start your journey by choosing a recruiting clan, no players are left behind.
We spoke to the developers some time ago and it was using Unity, but they switched to Unreal Engine, so we can expect much better performance.
They are hoping for a first release of their Unreal Engine FPS around the 23rd of December on Steam.
We do have a number of shooters available on Linux, but we don't have many MMO-class games, and it looks like Storm United could fill the void for a lot of us.
The early access release will come with 5 game modes, 6 maps, a vehicle, clan features, cross-server chat, and many more features. They plan to add lots more as they work on it during early access too, so it has us very excited here.

The developers also mentioned they will pop us a few keys at release, so expect us to be able to cover it properly! You will need to buy it during early access, but once complete it will be free 2 play with cosmetic items purchasable, so no pay 2 win features. That's the type of thing we can get into bed with!

Liam the video isn't showing. Just got a big blank white space there.
EDIT: For anyone else with this. We worked out it's "https everywhere" plugin stopping them.
So disable plugin, or just go watch them elsewhere like I have.

I'm trying not to get too excited, but this could be our "destiny"! Now UE4, like all the engines needs some( or a lot, i don't know) work in order to get a decent performance on Linux. I tried all the demos from here: https://wiki.unrealengine.com/Linux_Demos and a lot of them run like crap. Tho I have confidence in UE4 and i know it can overperform and overshine Unity on linux anytime, I'm saying is that:
1) It's an Early access game, issues and low priority of fixing them on tux is to be expected.
2) We can only hope they even gonna play test it on linux (or that linux version will be even released at EA lunch)
3) Game might turn out to be crap
4)Performance, performance, performance...
Tl;DR : YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! But don't get too excited and wait for (linux) reviews before buying.

Hi, I'm the developer of this game so I thought I could perhaps answer some of your concerns right here ^^
I think Epic is doing a fantastic work with UE4 and I expect them to put a lot of energy making Unreal work properly on Linux. It will happen because the SteamBox is growing well and it runs Linux.
Regarding the priority with Linux issues I think that possible problems we might face will have to be solved by Epic, not us. UE4 is supposed to be a cross-platform engine and because of that, our role as Unreal developer is to make sure that our code is cross-platform compatible, any other issue that may arise will be issues occurring on all other Unreal developer Linux builds.
This said, overall Epic has been doing an insanely awesome job with Unreal and I'm confident their support for Linux will be as good as the support we have received until now.
Lastly, no the game won't turn out to be crap hahaha ;)

So, is this really *massively multiplayer* or just another game that claims to be and has ~50-100 players on screen which is absolutely not massively?!To us MMO means a world in which your actions can affect other people. In this sense Storm United is a MMO. We will have amongst others a 'galaxy map' where resources can be fought for through battles on maps with up to 64 players. We will also have in-game tournaments that will affect events and various other surprises.

If this game keeps its promises it could make some of us forget about BF4 on Linux.You must be referring to some NVIDIA destructible environment tech Epic had shown when they demonstrated UE4 for the first time. Unfortunately at this point in time this tech is not ready to use but who knows, maybe one day we'll get something cool in the Unreal 4 release note :P

kudos on this mentality. use cp tools and don't cross the line for any side is best way to code cross platform. correct start like this is more or less 90 of being cp and a really rare find. i'm not really MMO fan, but approach like this really deserves support. thumbs up now, money later ;)
most developers rush and pick what they think they want and later yap how A doesn't run, B is not compatible and C needs rewrite. and then there are probably some internal engine changes that were done for one platform only

1. What does the movement/aiming feels like in Storm United? Is it more like traditional fps games (Quake, UT, hldm,...) or is it more like in newer/tactical ones (CoD, BF,...).
2. Does the game also have something like outposts/cities to show of armor/weapon skins and other goodies, or to look for parties/chat with people like in other MMOs?
3. If the game releases for early access on 23rd of December on Steam, will it just be available for Windows or also Linux at that time? Because I would be more than glad to help with testing :)

Of course, for me, FPS shooters have always been richly represented in the Linux world, even FOSS ones in most distros' repositories. I have Counter-Strike, Half-Life(s), Left4Dead, Metro:Last Light, Nuclear Dawn, Painkiller, Red Orchestra, and a few more. I think I have enough (for me, who isn't the most talented shooter player.
In other words, I have a lot of shooters (probably enough...), and a limited budget, and, with the number of Linux games today, the ability to be picky^_^ about which games I buy.

Personally I welcome shooters with deep social aspects that make playing with friends and joining friends worth it like this does. Rather than bland shooters with different game-modes.

Awesome. This will be the first real playable UE4 game on Linux I believe. or did I miss something? Can't wait to see how this pans out.. looks right up my alley!

1. The movements have a Quake feeling in terms of movement fluidity and sensations but you'll need to think about your positioning like CS. We have put a lot of care in this, I think we've reached something really top notch sensation wise.
2. That's something we wanted to do originally but it is too much work for a small team like us. A place to chill and meeting people perhaps compatible with Oculus rift. This is something we'd be able to do if we're successful enough. I definitely agree it would be fantastic to see a futuristic city with neons and shops where you could buy crafting materials etc. We tried oculus in our levels and its absolutely stunning.
3. It should be available for PC Mac and Linux.
I will get in touch with gamingonlinux when we're ready to run the special Linux closed beta for you guys :D
