The Original Strife: Veteran Edition is apparently the original hybrid of FPS and RPG games. It has been revamped, and placed onto Steam. The engine is even open source and included with the game.

We spoke to one of the developers who cleared this up about the engine:
The engine used is actually open source and based on "Chocolate Strife", Night Dive Studios actually employed the original Chocolate Strife developers to do it, and keep it open. You have to love that!

About the game

Old memories ;)

I'm also applying for that keys! I love this website because the update rate on Linux gaming is fantastic and the article contents are very professional.

I have actually never heard of this game. This looks like a great game to play if you enjoyed Hexen/Heretic. It looks really good! And I love you *this* much! :D

Amazing what the community can do when the original developers lost the code.

I used to call Strife the "1996 Deus Ex" not exactly sure why, maybe because of the FPS-RPG game it is. Brings good memories from my childhood (which it seems I'll get to re live them again). I didn't fully understand the game then, I was still a bit young. It's payback time ;)

I love GoL, it's the only Linux gaming site I check like 13 times a day, no other site has this much information about Linux games, plus the community is friendly. :-)

(Without disrespect, please count me out for the keys. I'll be getting the GOG version once it's released).

I love Gayming on Linux! Its the only place to get my daily dose of gay s*x :)

So anyway, I seriously check GOL every time I open my browser. (200 times a day) I dont expect anything new, its just a kind of impulse because my life is so boring. The only thing I do with my life is play gayms, including Gayrs of War on XBox. (Only for the pun, not seriously. I dont buy Microsoft stuff.)

Enough of my pathetic attempt at getting a key, I need to listen to Baba Yetu because its awesome. Bye.

There will be one? If so I guess that answers one of my questions.

Linux games are good. Also i'm surprised at how little known Strife is. It was one of the last two (The other being the infamous Chex Quest.) games to built directly off the DOOM engine.
