Banished is the harsh city building and survival simulation that the developer had always planned to port to Linux, but it looks like it's about to happen now.
I've been excited about this game since I first heard about it, and the reviews on Steam are great. I've seen masses of posts on twitter about how good it is, and it's exciting to know that the developer planned ahead for porting.
Choice quote from the latest blog post:
You can find Banished on Steam now, but do not buy it until the official Linux release, or risk not being counted as a Linux sale.
About the game (from Steam)
In this city-building strategy game, you control a group of exiled travelers who decide to restart their lives in a new land. They have only the clothes on their backs and a cart filled with supplies from their homeland.
The townspeople of Banished are your primary resource. They are born, grow older, work, have children of their own, and eventually die. Keeping them healthy, happy, and well-fed are essential to making your town grow. Building new homes is not enough—there must be enough people to move in and have families of their own.
Will you be picking it up? I will be.

QuoteWith the mod kit and steam workshop out there, I’ve been working on porting the game to OSX and Linux, cleaning up code, and writing some new code. I’ll still be fixing bugs and making small changes, but my focus now is going to be on ports, and building prototypes for new games.
I’ve built a new machine for developing on Linux, and bought some Mac’s, so I’m all set with hardware. And it’s been a while since I used makefiles, other IDEs, gcc/clang, or did any sort of *nix development, but I have done it so I’m not starting from ground zero.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Have this on my radar since the developer marked he may port it. I am excited it is going to happen now, I love city builders (I like Hearthland as well, has a lot of potential still being early access).
I guess the port will still take some time, but as soon as released it's a must buy for me.

I've been hoping for a native Linux version since I saw the excitement and read the reviews. Of course, I do like sandbox games, along with my other gaming preferences :D .

For sure is in the Steam wishlist, but I think that the actual port will take some time to make, since is a one man studio. And I like sandbox games, so no problem with no objectives in game.

Amazing game.... I'll be happy when I don't have to play it on wine.
